⚠️spoiler alert⚠️
yumeko's p.o.v
dabi was weirdly precise when it came to timing - he actually showed up 10 minutes after we talked on the phone, not a minute later. he knocked on the door and i got up to go and open it, since keigo was in the kitchen making food for us. grilled chicken. for the third time this week.
i opened the door, and, as i expected, dabi was stood in front of me. "hey, come in."
dabi seems like the type to be cold and distant on the outside, but when he's with keigo and i, he smiles a lot more than i think he would like to let on to others. the two of us sat down in the living room and spent some time joking around and laughing with each other - like we had since we were children. we heard the occasional laugh come from keigo, who was listening from the kitchen.
eventually, keigo came in with the food he had prepared and set it down in front of us. the three of us dug in and spent some time catching up until we finally got down to business.
"alright, dabi. what did you come here for?" keigo asked, "or did you just want free food?"
"goodness, no! what do you take me for, hawks?" he mocked, then shifted in his seat and looked both of us dead in the eye one by one. "yumi, you were right about the fact that no one else can bring in info as accurately as you two - i mean, you're in the top 10, both of you. you should know everything there is to know."
keigo raised an eyebrow and took a bite out of his chicken, "that we do, dabi."
i nodded to confirm what he had said.
"so, fine. you get one more chance." he sighed, following keigo in taking a bite from the food provided to him.
there we go. i thought.
"what's the job?" keigo asked, still chewing. i reached up and pinched his ear hard. "gross, don't talk with your mouth full, hawksy." i scolded.
he swallowed before crying out in pain, "ow! knock it off, that hurts!"
i laughed as he grabbed my arm and pushed me off him, then we both turned back to dabi and returned to the serious mood he had created earlier.
"you two are gonna prove your loyalty not just to the league, but to the whole anti-establishment cause." he explained, but we didn't expect what he said next, as i put a piece of chicken in my mouth, he spoke again.
"so, take someone out. someone other than number one." he demanded, his cold voice shooting shivers down my spine. i almost choked after i processed what he had said, but i collected myself quickly.
"dabi, that's a big thing - it could get us found out." i protested, but keigo put a hand on my shoulder as if to say, 'shut up, right now.'
"well that's a risk we'll take." keigo accepted, and i had no choice but to act as though i was alright with it. someone other than endeavour... like we even stood a chance against him - he never lets his guard down, even around his family.
"well... when do you want it to be done for?" i asked him, shifting uncomfortably and putting the utensils i was using to eat down. the thought of murder had put me off eating. i gently pushed the plate away from me and sat back, awaiting his response.
"no time specifically, but soon." he demanded, "figure out between yourselves who it's gonna be, take them out, and then get back to me."
"got it." keigo accepted our task without even giving me a few seconds to think it over for myself. i get that he's fast but he needs to take into account that he won't be doing this alone! my opinion matters too, especially when it comes to killing one of our friends!
