See end for notes.

The professor opened his mouth to continue after a short silence, but the waitress came back with their drinks and the apple pie. Luke thanked her, the professor nodded to her.

"I've missed you."

The words were so random, Luke quickly pulled away his cup of coffee from his lips and choked on the sip he had already taken. The hot liquid burned his throat as he tried to swallow it. After he had managed that, he coughed loudly. He caught Layton staring at him, chewing his lip and looking out of the window again. The professor seemed so troubled, and Luke wanted to know  more.

"Excuse me?" After a final cough, he stared at the professor, waiting until he would turn his head back and continue. He didn't, though. "Professor?"

"I had a lot of fun hearing from you, reading your letters, your adventures. When your letters stopped, I assumed your holiday was over and that school was beginning for you again soon." The professor took a deep breath and looked at Luke with a hint of pity in his eyes. "And I am sorry for saying this, but whatever happened there, is not an excuse for not contacting me in ten years."

Luke's eyes widened with surprise. "What do you mean?"

Now it was the professor's turn to open his eyes in shock. But not only shock, Luke sensed a certain disgust and suddenly, the air became tense. "Your letters stopped, and I haven't heard from you in ten years. And you are asking what happened here in London? What the hell happened in New York that you couldn't contact me in ten years?!"

Luke's breath caught in his throat after the outburst of Layton. He blinked a few times, not understanding the situation. He had sent letters, and he had received letters from the professor as well.

Something was very wrong.

Ugh, this is shitty and short, I know. I had a plan for this story, but I haven't been writing for a while, so I might re-write everything and make the chapters longer.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed it :) Vote, comment etc.
Also, if you have any requests for other stories or one-shots, don't be afraid to ask; I am currently out of ideas x)
