PROLOGUE

THE CASTLE WAS ALWAYS THE MOST ALIVE
during the summertime. The sun hit the panes of
glass that lined the uppermost stories and large, colorful stained glass decorated the bottom. Running through the corridors, a rainbow of color sprayed out from the windows, spreading over the long halls in all differing shades of red, yellow, and blue. The rock walls shimmered in the sunlight, almost as if they were damp from rain.

But the best feature of the castle was the endless garden spanning yards across the back end of the giant stone fortress. It contains wisps of blue, pink, whites, and all sorts of bugs fluttered across the petals in a soft, twisting dance.

Beyond that garden, a mile away from the bustling castle, sits a small wooden cottage. The wood sags with age and bits of moss flake away from the long boards. They bend where the nails had been pierced through its fibrous flesh, warping the face of the house in a vicious snarl. In the middle of the face is a small wooden door, decorated with a small wreath of daisies, vines dripping down from the palladian window.

The interior of the cottage is quaint, the furniture old and drenched in the scent of an old woman's musk. A small kitchen sits in the corner of the cottage with a generous sized sofa spotted with pillows and before it a large stone fireplace to warm the home. Towards the back of the cottage, a long hall runs into a dead end, lined with two rooms.

One room for the hand of the king, and one for a girl who doesn't know she is about to change everything.

Forever.
