although it was relatively difficult to read emotions through a mask, I could almost feel the smirk that lurked behind it.
'and why would you want to know that?' she inquired, the playful tone making my toes curl slightly.
excitement bubbled up from my chest, almost unable to believe my luck.
she was even more impressive in person!
even crouched in the bushes, it was obvious that her build was lean and quite tall, maybe even taller than me.
her hand was still clamped on my shoulder, absentmindedly squeezing here and there as she scouted the empty streets.
'stick with me.' she whispered, making her way to the edge of the fence.
I nodded eagerly and followed her without any hesitation, keeping my eyes on her dark form.
after a few moments she began to feel around for something in the dirt, shuffling around leaves and loose twigs.
her fingers traced the outline of what I could dimly make out to be a square in the ground, before lifting up the edge.
my eyes widened imperceptibly as an underground passageway was revealed, something I never could have imagined otherwise.
as the sounds of police boots became louder, I obeyed her gesture to climb down, sweaty hands sticking to the smooth metal rungs.
my feet hit the concrete floor and I stepped back into the dark tunnel, making room for Athena to land beside me moments later.
the darkness in the tunnel was overwhelming and I felt myself starting to panic, calming slightly when I felt her steadying presence.
she made soft shushing noises as she dug through her bag, pulling out a flashlight and clicking it on.
a warm light filled our surroundings, revealing a generic, concrete tunnel that was somewhat on the large side.
a small sound of amazement escaped my mouth, only to echo for what seemed like an eternity.
when I turned back to the girl, she was in the process of tugging off her helmet, revealing what I would assume was the prettiest person I had ever seen.
(shes basically willow smith without the dreads and with a soft head of curls)
I gaped unintentionally, my mind going completely blank at my fortune.
she noticed my staring and arched a perfect eyebrow, 'you know, you're not so bad yourself.' she murmured, returning her attention to her gear.
a tingling flush crept up my neck as I smiled widely.
she finished shoving her gloves and helmet into her backpack, stepping past me to lead the way into the tunnel.
I followed her, completely forgetting about Kuren and my ankle injury.
'can you tell me your name?' she asked, smooth voice breaking the otherwise silent atmosphere.
my sneakers scuffed against the concrete as I suddenly became uncharacteristically bashful.
'oh, uh. I'm Leila.' I answered, dropping my head when she craned her neck to look at me.
she said nothing, other than a quick 'cute', turning and continuing to walk.
'um, can I ask where we're going?' I inquired, not that it really mattered to me, other than hearing her silky voice again.
'we're going back to my organization's base, then I'll decide what to do with you.'
I blinked, unsure as to what that meant, exactly.
regardless, it seemed I would find out soon.
