Chapter 25

~Newt's POV~

"Newt can I talk to you?" Y/N asks, twirling her hair around her fingers in the way she does when she gets nervous, "Sure love. Let's go in the trees?" She nods quickly, and we walk to the forest, sitting down with our backs against a tree where we could still see everything going on in The Glade.

She's silent for a few minutes, giving me time to study her, She's so beautiful, and she looks amazing. I love the way she dresses so casually, not really caring about her appearance, and she looks bloody cool with her leather jacket, boots and arm guard.

"So what did you want to talk to me about?" I ask, and I swear she blushes, What's up with her today? "So, um, I wanted to talk to you about-" she starts, but then I hear someone calling my name. "Newt? I need your help!" I give her an apologetic smile, "Sorry love; this'll only take a minute".

Ten minutes later, I walk back to the place where I left Y/N and find her pacing around anxiously, she looks up at the sound of my footsteps, and relief floods her face. "Newt! Thank goodness, so I wanted to tell you-" but yet again I hear another voice, "Newt? Where is that shuckface, NEWT?"

I sigh, "What now, I'll be back soon, ok?" This job takes longer to finish, and its fifteen minutes before I'm free to go and look for Y/N, She looked really desperate to talk to me, I wonder what she wants. I look back towards the tree and see her right at the top of it; Of course that's where she'll be.

I jog over to the base of the tree, and she sees me coming, climbing quickly down. "Newt I need to tell you-" but again I hear someone calling me, "Newt?"

I throw my hands up in disbelief "Bloody hell, why does everyone need me all of a sudden??", I stalk over to the boy to find out what he needs, "Newt! I need your help in the gardens-".

"Then ask Zart!"

"I did, but he's busy and told me to ask you!"

I groan in frustration, glancing over my shoulder at the tree and I see Y/N staring after me, a strange look on her face; then she turns around and disappears into the trees, I start after her, but the boy grabs my arm. "Please Newt! I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important!", I look between him and the trees where Y/N disappeared, and reluctantly I turn away, following the boy to wherever he needs me.

The job that he needs help with is quite urgent, the watering system has burst in a couple places, leaking water everywhere, and our water tanks are getting low. I sure hope it rains tonight I think, looking at the dark racing clouds, We need it.

The pipes take an hour and a half to fix, and by the time we're done, the sun has set. I run through the trees looking for her, I check at her hut but find it empty, I strip off my hoodie and leave it there, I'll come back for it later.

I finally find her at the pond, she has her radio playing while she sends arrow after arrow at her target, a tree fifty meters away, and all the twenty arrows in its trunk are packed so close together I could have covered them with one hand.

I wait until she finishes her round then step out of the trees, "Hey love" I say, and she turns around. She's been crying I notice, and I rush to her, pulling her into a warm hug.

~Y/N's POV~

I watch as the boy pulls Newt towards the gardens, and my failing resolve and courage finally fades to nothing. A tear slips down my cheek, I've waited so long to tell him, and now I can't.

He looks over his shoulder at me, and that does it, I turn and run into the trees, letting my tears fall. I run to my tree and climb to the top, the gnarled branches providing familiar passage to the top where the biting wind whips the tears from my face.
