The battle the Gang and Nightmare was facing was a tough one, and it oddly reminded him of another one from years past.

------

One time, Nightmare and Error were battling back to back against Ink and Dream. They were united by one common enemy. Otherwise, they were distant friends. More like unstable allies, really. So, why he would intercept an otherwise-fatal attack for Error was unknown to him, but he tacked the blame on a stray tree root.

He didn't exactly regret the 'mistake', though, because after the bones slipped between his ribs, Error went berserk and almost killed the enemy. He had then proceeded to pick Nightmare up, bridal style.

He had whispered, "I'm not a princess, you idiot."

He had snarked right back, "You might as well be one right now."

-----

Now, as Error was struck down by the attack meant for him, he wondered why he was too slow to react, why he was stuck to the spot and why he couldn't seem to blink.

-----

Error had carried him back to his desolate mansion and had set him down on his rather large bed, Nightmare's skull on his lap.

"Good night, princess," he had taunted.

-----

He carried Error's dusting body in his trembling arms. The glitch looked up at him one last time, eyes slightly glassy and unfocused, smiled one last smile, and weakly chuckled, "Guess I'm the princess now, huh? Well... I'm not complaining... Good night, my prince..."

Something warm trickled down Nightmare's cheek.

"You idiot."
