One Wish

A Unique Wish

Life is like smoking for the first time, you take a pull, cough and keep going. Continuously smoking until, you reach the end. All the hardships and seconds worth of bliss gone, now you're in for the absolute worst. All the,

"Ew you smoke?"

or,

"You probably are gonna get sick."

then all you can do is either nod or roll your eyes.

   At least that's what I wrote in my journal before falling asleep beside my little sister's hospital bed, yet again. I'm 19 year old Carter Shawn, and my 13 year old sister Amethyst Shawn has lung cancer. She's had it for almost a year, luckily I've been getting by on her hospital bill, using my college funds. I didn't go to college because, well if I did then how would she get her care 'til she's back healthy.

   Well lately since her condition is getting worse, I hate to say it but she may not get back healthy without surgery...

•NEXT DAY IN HIS SISTER'S POINT OF VIEW•

   I wake up turned on my side to hear Shawn on the phone with, well I don't know who but oh well.

   "Hey... Well me I'm ok and as for Amethyst she's goin'... Wow straight to the point aren't cha? To be honest if the doctor says that she has to get surgery then, most likely the money I have stored for her is a goner... Yeah, I'm sure it is... Yeah I need a job, quick fast and in a hurry. Do you have any positions at your office?... Damn, ok well in that case I'll talk to you later after I'm done job searching."

   This is the effect of my medical condition? Man I wish I could help, well for now I can help by not being nosey so I yawn and turn over to him. He smiles and pats my head.

   "Jeez you need to do something about that hair."

   He chuckled and got my oxygen tank, so I can go to the bathroom and get myself cleaned up. He hooked me up to it then sent me off to the bathroom. Then I heard him leave out the room, I paid it no attention and got myself together.

   "Oh Amethystttt I have a surprise!"

"Ou what is it?!"

   I ran into the room honestly hoping it was food, but it was a man. Umm what?

   "Hi Amethyst, I'm Derek from the Make a Wish Foundation, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. I'm here to grant your wish. So what will it be hun, what is your wish?"

   "I- I- I wish for my brother to have a well paying job!"

   My mouth gapes open in shock! I can't believe I just said that!!

"You wish for what?!"

   My brother just said what I was thinking! I just said that?! What the hell was I just thinking!!!

   "Well.. that is one, unique wish but I'm sure we can make it happen"

   The man smiled at me and, then my brother then politely asked him to step outside with him.
