19: So Close

DK POV

I watched as Kadence walked away with some girl. I didn't see her face but it looked like they had some bit of a quarrel.

"Teka, yun ba yung bagong girlfriend ni Kai?" JP asked out loud.

"I don't think so," I said. The girl didn't appear to be Ginger. "A friend maybe?"

"Sayang talaga. But I'm sure his future will be better sa US of A," JP put into words the exact thing that was on my mind. "But I was still hoping he could be part of your band."

Oh, well. I've been with the Azcona brothers and watching them for a long time now. I knew that once they made up their mind, nothing or no one could ever change that.

"Exactly my thoughts," I sighed as we both entered the conference room.

It was a big nice cozy place filled with perhaps about a hundred seats or so. A few young people had already arrived and occupied the far left side of the room. We decided to just sit wherever we could.

"Guess we arrived early, huh?" JP whispered to me as he lounged himself in the nearest chair.

I did the same. "It's cool man. I'm actually excited to hear Doc Reagan's talk.." I whispered back.

"You think he's gonna earn more fans or anti-fans today?" he asked.

"I'm hoping someone's brave enough to debate and not walk away," I said.

We both know Doc Reagan's ideas and teachings were always uptight yet composed, pedagogical yet deviant, dogmatic yet liberal. He was known as the Master of Controversy, Doctor Eccentric and Mr. False Positive. Supporters and critics were always around him.

JP laughed. "Haha. Yeah. I wonder how many haters will he gain today?" he wondered as he was looking around. "By the way, I thought Spencer's coming?"

"I thought too. Guess he's too busy with his engagement party coming in next week," I said. "But there's no exact date yet so don't tell anyone."

"Of course man," JP assured me, "So, will you announce the winners of the audition on his engagement party as planned?"

"As much as I don't like the idea of him getting engaged to a graduating college student whom he just met a few days ago, I also don't want getting a bit of the limelight on his important day," then I paused.

"What's so wrong with that?" he asked.

"I just don't like it. But you know that Spencer is one of the major sponsors of this project and this idea of his, is a good marketing strategy. You know he has tons of friends from the media," I said.

JP nodded as if trying to dissect what I was saying, "Free publicity for the band.." he said.

"Right. But wait there's more," I said lowering down my voice so only he could hear, "you know Pia has a contract with Redbeats right?"

"Yeah, I heard," JP said. "So they are coming?"

"U-huh," I smirked. "A couple of guys were invited." Or should I say a couple of obnoxious peeps.

"Is that a good thing or what?" he asked curiously..

I shook my head, "Naah. Spencer just wanted to show-off.." Another bastard.

"Well that's Spencer, alright, haha." JP said as he laughed it off.

"Yeah, man. Speaking of Spence, they're doing a duet on their engagement day. It's Pia's composition and one hell of a good one. I want you to hear it and tell me your feedback."
