That's how many students used to be in Mr.Patterson's first hour world history class.29
That's how many students are in that class now.Today, every desk is filled. Except one.
Second row, two seats down. The only desk that's empty. The desk Kayla Adams would sit in every morning. The desk where she answered almost every question right. The desk where she got A's on all her tests. The only empty desk.
There was an uncomfortable silence filling the room as the remaining 29 students waited for their teacher, waited for the day to start so they could pay attention to anything else but their own thoughts.
2 minutes until class starts.
They were all expecting Kayla to come through the door, but she wouldn't be coming to class today. Or tomorrow. She would never be coming into this class again. She's dead.
1 minute until class starts.
2 weeks ago, she committed suicide. No one knows the real reason, or reasons, why she took her life. Not even her family knows, which only adds to the grief of loosing a daughter, a sister, a niece, a granddaughter. The only thing she left was a small note saying "I'm sorry."
The bell rings.
Mr.Patterson walks in.
The day starts as it normally does, just without Kayla.
