Chapter 23
Seriously? This is just my first night in this apartment and yet I experienced thieves stealing all of my things.
Unbelievable.
But something suddenly appeared on my mind—I didn't lock the door! I forgot about it!
I sighed. I just need to adjust to my new environment. But I'm just wondering how did those thieves managed to go inside of this building? When as far as I can remember, may mga guards sa ibaba—specifically, sa gate.
It is not just about my negligence of locking the door, but also of those guards on duty. 'Di ba nga dapat mas maramdaman kong safe ako kasi alam kong binabantayan nila 'yung safety namin? But then again, they're just humans. Wala silang superpowers.
With trembling hands, I reached for the doorknob to lock it. I chose not to tell any of my cousins about the incident dahil alam kong sasabihin nilang 'di ako ligtas dito at mas pipilitin lang nila akong bumalik sa mansion.
I'm gonna meet Cia's parents tonight. It completely slipped out of my mind.
I need to get back on sleep. As I was prepping myself to sleep, I received an unexpected phone call 30 minutes before 2 am.
"Cia? Napatawag ka? Anong oras na, ah..." I said upon answering the call.
"I can't sleep..." she replied. "I'm worried about you. Ayos ka lang ba talaga dyan?"
Nah. I won't tell her.
I took a deep breath, deciding against lying on her. Because what's the sense?
I responded after a few minutes of debating with myself.
"Di ka naman ba nila nasaktan? Naka-lock na ba ngayon 'yung pinto mo?" she asked, panicking.
"Di nila ako sinaktan. And yes, naka-lock na ngayon 'yung pinto. At saka, kasalanan ko kasi nakalimutan kong mag-lock kanina."
I heard her sigh from the other line. "Thank God you're safe. But I'm glad I just did!"
"Can I ask you a little favor?" I asked.
"Ano 'yun?" she asked back.
"Don't tell Cassy or any of my cousins about it," I responded while my eyes are already closed because I'm really sleepy.
"Okay... pero bakit?" tanong niya ulit.
"I just don't want them to worry.
