Seven Billion people experienced today in a different way. My day is not going that good. Why? Oh because my sister is having a surgery inside and I just had a meltdown for no apparent reason.
I kept crying for god knows how long until a small girl shook me.
"Are you okay?" she asked me. She must be around five and was wearing two pony tails on top of her head. Her voice was calm and quite. She reminded me of Lynn.
"Yeah. I was just praying for my sister," I told her wiping my tears from the sleeve of my sweatshirt.
"What happened to your sister?" she asked taking a seat beside me.
"She is having a surgery," I said and a tear dropped from my eye. The little girl stood up and wiped it from my face and hugged me.
"It is going to be okay. Your sister is going to be alright," she patted my back by her tiny hands.
"Thanks sweetie," I said hugging her back.
"What is your name?" I asked her.
"Ashley," she replied playing with the hem of her skirt.
"That is a beautiful name," I smiled.
"Thank you, what is yours?" she asked me back.
"Laura," I said.
"And you sister's?" she continued.
"Lynn," I replied.
"Laura and Lynn they both are such nice names."
"So how old is your sister?" she asked me still playing with her skirt. She seemed a bit shy.
"Twelve,"
"Ohhh I can't wait to be twelve!" she replied excitedly. And I laughed with her.
"Is she pretty?" she asked shyly.
"Oh yes she is really pretty," I replied smiling.
"Just like you," she said. I smiled again.
"Ashley! Come on we need to go," came a feminine voice. I looked around and saw a woman waiting by the door.
"Oh my mother is here but it was really nice to meet you Laura," the girl hoped from the seat and ran to her mom.
"Bye! Laura. Lynn is going to be okay. Don't cry!" she shouted as her mother carried her.
"Bye Ashley see you around," I said. As I turned in her direction I saw that her mother was fighting tears. I had seen this face too many times of my own parents to know that something is not right. Also what was this little girl doing in the hospital in the first place?
I stood up and ran after her mother.
"Excuse me Ma'am," I called out as she turned.
"Yes dear?" she asked me.
"Is everything okay... with Ashley?" I asked.
"Oh yeah... actually no... she would be starting chemo the day after tomorrow and in the morning she would lose her hair. She actually is diagnosed with blood cancer." The mother said in a hushed tone so that Ashley doesn't hear her.
"Oh. I am so sorry Ma'am I didn't know it. Don't worry Ashley would be fine." I said. I don't know what came over me but I took off the bracelet that I was wearing and gave it to the mother.
"Here, give it to Ashley in the morning. It is my good luck charm," I smiled as the mother hugged me.
"Thank you," she said as she turned around with tears still in her eyes.
