Ingredients:
- One large apple (I use Gala/Granny Smith/Pink Lady)
- 2 tbs honey
- 1 tbs granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tbs packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1/3 cup of water
- 1-2 tbs powder sugar
(Note: if you want a less sweet filling reduce brown or granulated sugar and vies versa if you want it sweeter)
Steps:
1.) peal the apple skins off and toss them
2.) cut the apple into 8 sections and remove the core
3.) dice all the apple sections
4.) in a bowl mix everything except the water and powder sugar together then place it in the fridge to marinate for 30 minutes
5.) pour the apples into a small sauce pan and turn the heat to medium-low
6.) after the apples begin to heat up pour in the water and place the lid on top of the sauce pan. On a low boil to a simmer cook the apples for 10-15 minutes, periodically stirring them.
7.) Once the apples are soft and produce a strong sent start mixing the apples while you slowly add in the powder sugar (this will thicken up the liquid)
8.) Increase the heat to medium-high the liquid should have a rolling boil. Continue stirring (stopping could cause the sugar to clump, crystallize, or even burn)
9.) Once the liquid begins to cling to the apples and resembles a gravy consistency turn the heat off.
10.) Pour the apples into a small bowl and in a medium bowl pour in some ice
11.) Place the small bowl into the medium bowl and continue stirring the apples until cool
12.) Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour before adding to things like: oatmeal, cakes, apple turn-over, pies, or other desserts
13.) Enjoy!!!!!!
