(Y/n) shivered. She couldn't get those words out of her head.

"We'll all kill you if you try to leave."

She shot up in bed, she was covered in a thin sheet of sweat. Her heart pounded in her chest.

"You aren't sleeping."

(Y/n) gasped quietly when San appeared at the foot of the bed.

"I-i couldn't sleep."

San looked at her blankly and she felt her words get caught in her throat.

"I-i can tr-"

San sat next to (Y/n) and she flinched away.

"When I was younger, and still alive, my mother used to do this when I couldn't sleep."

He wrapped an arm around (Y/n) and pulled up the blanket. She tensed up when his cold hand touched her side. He massaged her side gently and she relaxed. She felt her eyes get heavy and she eventually fell asleep. Her soft breathing filled San's head and he stopped. He disappeared without a word.

...

(Y/n) woke up with a pounding headache. She sat up slowly and winced. Her eyes burned and her ears rang.

"You're awake, Seonghwa took the time to make food for you."

(Y/n) turned to Yunho. He stood at the doorway holding a tray of food.

"He also made some herbal tea for you."

"Thank you."

Yunho set the tray down and (Y/n) poked at the food. Why would spirits have fresh food if they're dead?

"Eat."

(Y/n) jumped up in shock.

"Can you knock?!"

"I don't need to."

(Y/n) scowled at San and he scoffed.

"You should eat, I decided to take you around the castle today."

"And why should I go with you?"

"Because if you don't, I'll lock you in this room and let you die. Alone."

"You won't kill me. I have the blood of a hunter, I'm one of the only people that can talk to you, touch you, see you."

San glared at the girl and grabbed her neck.

"You have two choices, go with me or die. Make your choice."

(Y/n) spat in his face.

"F*ck you."

"You're going with me whether you like it or not."

"So be it."

San let go of her neck and left. She hesitantly ate the food and changed into clean clothes. She winced as she peeled off her bloody bandage.

"Are you dressed?"

"Why do you bother asking?"

San scoffed and went inside. (Y/n) was having trouble with the bandage.

"Do you need help?"

"Not from you."

He rolled his eyes and kneeled in front of (Y/n). He unrolled the clean bandage and wrapped the wound. (Y/n) sat quietly as he tied a small bow and put away the bandage.

"There, are you ready now?"

(Y/n) nodded and San smiled slightly.

"I'll go with you, on one condition."

San extended an arm to (Y/n) and she linked her arm with his.

"We have to be civil, the entire time. No threatening to murder me or hitting me. No stabbing me either."

"Deal."

They walked out of the room and the hallway was lit with candles. The magnificent chandelier was twinkling in the main hall. San led (Y/n) up to the balcony overlooking the main hall.

"This is the main hallway, it leads to the main hall and to the bedrooms."

"The chandelier..."

(Y/n) leaned slightly over the balcony.

"It's quite beautiful."

"It's stunning."

She stretched her arm out, but lost her balance. San wrapped an arm around (Y/n) tightly.

"Be careful!"

(Y/n) flinched from the sudden harshness in his tone. San sighed and linked his arm with hers again.

"Would you please be more careful?"

(Y/n) nodded and San brought her back down the stairs to the courtyard.

"This is the courtyard?"

"It hasn't been tended to properly in centuries, but yes. This used to be the most lavish courtyard of its time."

San gestured to a small gate beyond a fountain.

"That's the garden, and my resting place."

(Y/n) stared at San in awe. His voice was filled with loneliness.

"Let's go there."

San looked at (Y/n) and nodded.

"Okay, stay near, we aren't the only ones here."

"Like Yunho and Seonghwa? Or Mingi, Yeosang, Hongjoong, Wooyoung, and Jongho?"

"No. Others."

San carefully led (Y/n) down a staircase. They walked to the gate and San pushed it open. The flowers were long dead and wilted. 8 headstones. 8 spirits.

"This is our resting place."

(Y/n) limped forward and kneeled in front of San's grave.

"Choi San, you were only 24."

"Unfortunately."

(Y/n) looked around in curiosity.

"Kim Hongjoong, 25. Park Seonghwa, 25. Jeong Yunho, 24. Kang Yeosang, 24. Song Mingi, 24. Jung Wooyoung, 23. Choi Jongho, 22."

She turned to San, her smile had faded.

"You were all so young."

San extended his hand to (Y/n) and pulled her up. She staggered slightly and he wrapped an arm around her. She stared up at him and he stroked her cheek slowly.

"You are sad."

(Y/n) nodded slightly as a single tear rolled down her cheek. Her heart ached for them. They were so young when they died.

"If I may..."

San wiped away the tear. His hand was so cold. He leaned closer to (Y/n) and tilted her chin up. His lips fit perfect onto hers. Like a missing puzzle piece. Her eyes fluttered shut as he kissed her. He pulled away from (Y/n) and her cheeks turned a soft pink.

"So, I'll show you to the kitchen and bath house? You don't have to use the bath house, you have a private one, but of course it is still an option."

(Y/n) nodded and San cleared his throat. He unwrapped his arm from her waist and linked his arm with hers.

"You can never come here alone. Understood?"

"U-understood."

Disappointment dripped off (Y/n)'s lips. The kiss would mean nothing. San led (Y/n) to the kitchen and bath house before bringing her to her room.

"Thank you."

San nodded.

"There are clothes that should fit you inside the dresser. I expect for you to be in the main hall at 8pm. Please dress decently."

(Y/n) nodded and San disappeared without another word.
