Chapter 14
"Y-Yu-Chan?"
Yuki stared straight ahead at the girl standing in front of her who looked much more mature than she did two years ago when they last saw eachother.
"Shi-Chan?" Yuki stuttered back to the girl.
'Why is she coming to the volleyball gym?" She thought, "Is she here to watch someone play? Is it that boy who she came here for? Does she usually come here during practices? Does Tsukishima know her?"
'Does....Tsukishima......know her?'
The girls heart stopped as she twisted around on the balls of her feet, her eyes meeting with Tsukishima's golden eyes.
His pretty pretty golden eyes, that were coated in shame.
"Hayashi, listen to me-" Tsukishima pleaded, stuck in his spot, as the girl stared up at him in disgust.
"So it's true then." She spat, "You know her?" She stabbed her pointed finger in the older girls direction, who stood in the doorway, practically in tears over the interactions unfolding in front of her.
"S-She's our manager" He gulped, muttering quietly as if that would make his situation any better. "I'm sorry, Hayashi."
"Enough." She whispered, tears falling quickly from her eyes, Tsukishima stared back at her, his heart breaking at the sight, wishing he could make it better.
'This is all my fault' He whispered to himself.
He looked down at his feet, trying to think of anything that would make this any better.
"Tsukishima" She raised her voice, tilting her head to the side, "Don't speak to me ever again."
Yuki finally broke her stare with the older boy, turning around and bolting out the door past Shimizu, not even stopping to get an explanation from the girl herself.
She ran and ran and ran as fast as she could, all the way back to her room. She unlocked her door and grabbed the duffel bag she just unpacked from under her bed, shoving everything she could into it.
'How could he do this to me? How could he sit there and listen to me talk about this for months and he knew the entire time. He had to have known for the entire time, right?' She threw her back onto the ground and fell to the floor soon after, folding her head into her knees, sobbing, trying to understand how her best friend could keep something that big from her.
'I'm going home' she thought, 'this isn't worth it. None of this is worth it' she stood up and threw her duffel bag across the room and watched it hit the wall near her desk as the tears poured from her face.
The heartbreak she felt right now was almost greater than the heartbreak she felt two years earlier when she lost her first best friend.
Knock knock knock.
Yuki stared at the door, knowing who it probably was.
"Hayashi, let me explain" Tsukishima pleaded urgently, still pounding on the door. Yuki stood there, holding her breath, watching the doorknob, knowing he could walk in at any second because she forgot to lock her door on the way in.
"Okay, I won't come in because I know you're angry, but please listen" Yuki sat against the back of the door and leaned her head back silently, listening to what the boy had to say.
The boy saw the shadow of the girl underneath the other side of the door and felt grateful that Yuki was one who tended to cave in quite easily. He mirrored her action and sat down on the other side of the door, and leaned his head back.
