CHAPTER 1

All alone

in the middle of the ocean

the moon pulls upon the sea

without a choice

the tide rises....

but alas, the moon is a million miles away

I can't hold you in my arms

so I turn my face

but the pale blue light

so no one can see

the longing in my heart

that glistens on my cheek

like the spray of waves

reaching towards the night sky

only to fall

upon the silver sand

Tears- by Joseph Miller

Standing on the hard cold sand, I wiggle my toes having my small pleasure of the small rocks scratching my skin. Sighing in relief I look up towards the sky, not being bothered by the cold night wind. The full moon is out of the clouds, showing all of my surroundings with a soft white glow. Walking forward I enter into the water before me, the touch cool water makes my entire being shiver. Walking in slowly until the tips of my hair soak up the water that makes it stick to my bare and naked back. Casting my eyes down I reach out to rest my palm in the center of a perfect reflection of the silver moon. Everything is perfect until the moon's reflection disappears from the water underneath my hand . Gasping I jerk my head up to see clouds casting over the moon hiding it from sight.

I start to notice instead of the nice cool water against my skin, it turns hot and thick with sticky red. Something brushes my elbow and I am quick to see what it is. Next to me I find a body of a young girl face upwards looking straight into my eyes with her own lifeless ones. Jerking away from the body I bump into another one and quickly find myself surrounded by a whole swarm of bodies. Bodies are everywhere, one after another float occsaionally passes by spreading more warm blood.

"Mara..." A quiet voice whispers. Horrified that maybe one of these bodies isn't dead, but some poor person close to death calling me by name I spin around looking for the source. If they know my name it is someone I know?

"Hello? Is somebody out there?" I yell out searching around myself for the person. They must be close if I can hear them whispering to me. Nausea creeps up into my stomach making want to hurl as I pass through the large number of masses floating around me.

"Mara" again the person calls my name. It sounds closer and louder and I gives me hope that I will be able to find them. Slick blood runs down my arms and torso as I push and pulls bodies around. Suddenly I feel weight on my shoulder causing me to turn around. Standing in front of me is a man I have never seen before. His face slightly blurred as if I couldn't focus on him fully.

"Who are yo-" I started to say when he wickedly smiles and pushes me down into the red water. Trying to get ahold of myself I stand back up only to have my hair grabbed and forced back into the water. Panic spreads through my body as hands pushes me down further and away from air. I gasp and fling my hands around to get a grip on anything but there is no use. Water rushes into my nose and mouth pushing into my lungs as my breath escapes me. It burns with an intensity I have never felt before. My body starts convulsing as I keep up my fight but this man is strong and proceeds to hold me down. I struggle against his hands, clawing his arms as my head goes fuzzy. I am going to drown...
