The little blue car bumped up and down going up the small hill. Three girls were in the back, holding their stomachs so they didn't puke.
Just a few hours ago, Jordyn, Belle, and Dot were sleeping in their beds at home, while their mother was secretly out getting presents for Dot's 9th birthday.
And then, at 7 o'clock in the morning, the girls were awoken to sirens of an ambulance and police cars, heading towards Blaine Street.
After a while, they got up to go eat breakfast, thinking nothing of the sirens. During breakfast, there was a knock at the door. Jordyn got up from the table and answered the door. A bunch of cops were standing on the porch. One of the cops told Jordyn he needed to take her and her sisters to a police station. At the police station the cops asked a lot of questions, which made Dot's head spin.
"Are you girls Daniella Cooper's daughters?" asked one officer, and the girls nodded.
"Do you know of any relatives that live in New Jersey?" asked another officer.
"Our uncle used to live 20 minutes away from us, but he died a few years ago," said Jordyn.
"Can I please have your names and your ages?" asked a third officer, ready with a pad and pencil.
"My name is Jordyn and I'm 12; That's Belle with the red sweater and she's 11; then that's Dot in the yellow hoodie, and she's 8, but her birthday is tomorrow," said Jordyn.
The officer scribbled something down on the pad, then quickly told them that their mother had died in a car accident that morning. Jordyn, Belle, and Dot needed lots of tissues, as they cried.
"Come with me, I am going to be bringing you to your grandmother's house," said the officer.
"But, officer, our grandmother lives in California, so we can't possibly go there without an airplane," said Belle.
"I am not talking about Ms. Bethany Mandel, I am talking about Ms. Anne Cooper," said the officer.
"Who is Anne Cooper? By the last name, I would think she is related to us, but I have never heard of that name," said Jordyn.
"She is related to you. She's your father's mother," said the officer.
"Oh, then that's why we don't know who she is," said Dot.
"Why?" asked the officer.
"Because our mom never talked about our father. We have no idea who he is and we have no idea who his family is. For all we know, Emma Watson could be his sister! You get what I mean?" said Belle.
"Why do you not know your dad?" asked the officer.
"Our mom never talked about him. When I was around 2 years old he left us, so I can't remember him at all. He left the day after Dot was born, and we never saw him again. After he left, our mom never spoke of him again," said Belle.
"Officer Kennedy! Are you going to bring the girls to Anne or what? We can't keep 'em!" shouted an officer.
"Come on, girls, get in the car," said Officer Kennedy, as he put their suitcases in his trunk.
They got into the back of Officer Kennedy's car, and they guessed it was his own because there were no sirens anywhere, and there was no walkie-talkie.
"Where does our grandmother live?" asked Belle.
"She lives in Princeton, about an hour away from Camden," said Officer Kennedy.
"An hour? It'll be 11 by the time we get there! And also, I am really bored," said Dot.
"Do you guys like to read? I have a few books up here that belong to my daughter. She left them in here when she got out of the car to head to her friend's house," said Officer Kennedy, handing 3 of the books back to Jordyn, who was in the middle.
