To anyone who might care
Y/n's POV
I threw my keys on to the table beside the door. I looked back at Tom and gave him a weak smile.
"Hey, honey. Hi, Tom." My mom greeted from the kitchen.
"Hi, mom." I said quietly. "Is dad here?"
Tom gave my mom a small wave and smile as he clutched on to his backpack straps.
"He's stuck at work. He'll be here in time for dinner."
"You can go up to my room." I whispered to Tom.
He nodded and walked up the stairs. I walked to the fridge and opened it to grab the grapes from the back. I closed it and started walking back to my room.
"Hey, what's going on?" My mom called after me, referring to why Tom was here.
"Tom is just helping me with some school work." I said softly.
"Ok." She nodded. "What happened to your sweatshirt?"
"Oh, I uh, I just spilled some soda on it at lunch. It was an accident." I lied.
"Ok. Have fun. Ask Tom if he's staying for dinner please."
I slightly nodded and walked up the stairs to my room.
"My mom wants to know if you're staying for dinner?" I asked Tom as soon as I opened the door.
"Uh, no thanks." He nicely smiled. "My grandparents are coming over for dinner tonight, my mom wants me there."
"Ok." I shrugged "I brought grapes." I placed them on my desk and sat my backpack on the floor and started zipping it open so I could get my text books out.
"Which subject do you want to start with first?" Tom asked placing his hands on his thighs.
"It doesn't really matter."
"How about English?"
I shrugged my shoulders. Tom sighed and moved out of my desk chair for me to sit in it.
..........
"Alright that's another assignment done for math." Tom announced. "How about another, I still have a bit more time?"
I groaned and ran my hands through my hair. "Absolutely not. I'm so exhausted."
"Well we can continue later this week, ok?"
"Ok."
"I should go then." Tom sighed. He picked his backpack up from the floor and headed for the door. "I'll see you tomorrow, Y/n."
"Bye, Tom." I said. I layed my head on my arms and I heard the door shut behind me.
God. That took forever. It seemed so pointless. It had been 3 hours since we started.
I looked at the wall in front of me. I didn't do anything and It did the same. We just stared at each other like a staring contest. Waiting for the other to blink so we can claim the victory we've always wanted.
"Y/n, Dinner!" My mother shouted from downstairs.
I was pulled out of my trance. I walked down to the kitchen and took my place at the table.
My mom was still setting the food up but my dad sat beside me.
He smiled at me as my mom sat down. "How was your day, sweetheart?" My dad asked.
"It was fine." I said as everyone began filling their plates.
"Just fine?" My mother asked.
I nodded my head and picked at the bit of food that sat on my plate.
My parents looked at each other sadly.
"Did you learn anything new, anything interesting happen?" Dad pried.
"I said my day was fine. Please stop asking." I said a bit harshly.
I sighed out of frustration as my parents gave each that look they always gave each other. The look of sorrow. The look where they knew something was wrong but they didn't know what to do. They didn't know how to fix it.
"Your mother told me that friend of yours was here today."
I silently nodded my head.
"What did you guys do?"
"He just helped me with some assignments I needed to catch up on."
I hadn't make eye contact with the both of them since my mother had sat down.
"You guys don't have to worry." I lied to them. "I'm fine, I promise."
