ALISHA

"Okay, I think that's everything." I zip up my last suitcase and carefully walk downstairs with it in my hand. I almost slipped carrying the heavy suitcase, but thank god, Ayaan bhaiya was behind me and caught me before I fell. He took the suitcase from my hand and walked down the stairs, making it at the bottom and wheeling it over to the front door.

It's been a month since Papa gave me permission to move to LA and take this job, and it's been a week since Penny and Brittany got married. They both loved my present for them, which was matching lingerie sets with robes. Penny messaged me and said that both of them would enjoy it on their honeymoon.

"Alisha, let's go," Mom calls for me, and I take one good look at the house. Even though I was home most of the time, I felt safe because I was with my family and made many memories with them and friends. I will remember everything from my first step, running down the stairs, learning how to cook from my parents, and bothering my brother. But I'm ready to start a new life in LA—time to be an adult.

We all piled in the car, and Papa reversed out of the driveway and went on the road. Within forty-five minutes, he made it to the airport. I got out of the car, and Papa and Ayaan bhaiya took my suitcases out of the trunk and placed them on the cart. Mom and Ayaan bhaiya's mate, Lisa, stood beside each other.

"Okay, that's everything," Papa says.

"Alright then. I just got a text from Navya Didi, and she said that my car reached her house," I tell them.

"Ok good," Ayaan bhaiya says.

I looked at my family with teary eyes, and they looked back at me with emotions. Mom engulfed me in her arms, back at me with the same expression, and I wrapped my arms around her, hiding my face in her hair.

"I will miss you very much, Alisha," She says with a croaky voice.

"Me too, Mom." We separate, and she kisses me on the cheek, and Ayaan bhaiya comes up to me.

"Hate to admit it, but I will miss you."

"Really?" I said 'shockingly'. He caught my sarcasm, and I hugged him. "I'll miss you too, bhaiya." We separate, and I see tears in his eyes for the first time. "Are you seriously crying? Bhaiya, the last time you cried was when you found out that you were going to be a dad," I tease him, and he wipes his tears away.

"I'm not crying. What are you talking about?" He covers it up, and we all laugh.

Lisa comes up and hugs me. "Take care of yourself," She wishes, and I let go of her.

"I will, but most importantly, you take care of yourself, my brother, and my future niece or nephew."

"I will." She responds and backs away, and Papa walks up to me.

Papa doesn't show his emotions, but I knew he was emotional on the inside, and I didn't want to show it. "Papa, Alphas have emotions too," I tell him.

When I said that to him, he didn't take long to let out his emotions and hug me, I laid my head on his chest, wrapped my arms around his waist, and let out my tears. I was always Papa's little girl and never left his side. After 23 years, I'm moving out, and it feels weird to leave him like that. But I've always wanted this. I want to start a new life, and a good way to start that off is with a job.

"Thank you so much, Papa, for everything. I love you."

"I love you too, beta." He says and looks at me: "I know that you will be on the West Coast, but if you need anything, let me know, ok?"

I nod at him, and he kisses me on the forehead. Ayaan Bhaiya takes the cart and wheels it inside the airport. My family followed me to the check-in line, and I gave the female staff member my passport and ticket. The other male staff member took my bags and put them on the conveyor belt, and they disappeared behind the plastic. I grabbed my carry-on bag. The female staff member gave me my passport and a boarding pass, and I walked over to the entrance to go to the gates.
