Chapter 27: I can't deal with all this Russian

Vanessa's P.O.V

Right now, I am so glad for the fact that Roseville is a really quiet and peaceful town because if there had been a fire like this in a city, there would be people, firemen, police and media everywhere but because this was Roseville, there were only a handful of firemen and the sheriff with two or three deputy's and one cameraman who looked bored out of his mind.

The firemen weren't even making an effort to control the fire. The Sheriff was talking to his deputy's and the cameraman had his camera on a stand while he drank beer standing next to it. All of this made it a lot easier for Lucy and me to slip past the scene without anyone even noticing. Zach and I parked the cars a little far from the scene. Now we were gathered around my car thinking of how to know if Espo and Ryan were even in there.

"We obviously need to get in and check the place" I said and Luke looked at me.

"Are you stupid? Do you see that fire? How the hell are you even going to get in?" Luke said.

"We can find some other entrance. Lucy you go from the right alley, I'll check the left there has to be some other way in" I said and she nodded. Luke and Zach also followed us.

The factory was like this big square in the middle of nowhere. The two alleys beside it made it a lot easier for us to slip past without being noticed. The factory had three stories, we were gonna have to check each floor and the fact that the firemen weren’t even trying to control the fire we were gonna have to be quick. Luke and I were walking from a far because of the fire but once we got in the alley there was nothing, it was as if the fire was only on the front. When we came to the end of the alley it opened to the right leading to the backside of the factory. I was going to turn but stopped when I heard shuffling of feet and then the creaking of an old metal door opening or closing I wasn’t sure.

I stopped Luke and peeked around the wall at first I only saw a rusty old metal door it was opened towards the left meaning I couldn’t see if anyone was standing behind it or not. I could definitely hear voices but the weird thing was there were no flames on this side of the factory; only the front was on fire almost like a distraction so no one would come here. I took my phone out and quickly texted Lucy if she also saw the door. She quickly replied, she could actually see the other side but she said that there wasn’t anyone there. Just when we both decided to start moving in I saw someone coming out.

It was definitely a guy, he looked well built. He was wearing all black and if it had been night time, I don’t think I would've even noticed him. I was sure Lucy also saw him so I stayed back, observing from a far. Who was this guy and where were Espo and Ryan?

The guy just stood there for a while with his hands in the pocket of his coat. Just then, we heard a muffled scream. The guy also looked towards the door, he was looking down. Probably a staircase leading to the basement. The guy walked a little inside disappearing from my view, I could see Lucy on the other side and I signaled her with my hand to wait. The guy came out after a few moments but this time he didn’t wait around or anything, he started walking away. I quickly came out of the alley and signaled Lucy to check inside while I dealt with him.

"What's the plan?" Luke whispered to me.

"I catch him" I simply stated while taking baby steps behind the guy making sure I made no sound. He was a fair distance away, anyway.
