My name is Son Seungjae and this is the story of how I met nine Vampires. But before I start I'd like to clarify some clichés and stuff I learned while living with them.

1. They are not immortal. They just have a different kind of DNA. They grow older, but at a much lower speed than humans. About 10 times slower.
So a vampire whose body is now in their twenties is usually 200 and something years old.
But it is true that their injuries heal faster.

2. Yes, they need blood to survive. Not necessarily human blood, but that is the most healthy one for them.
Ever heard of Xenotransfusion? Scientists are working on the procedure to use pig blood for blood tranfusion for humans because their red blood cells are similar to them of humans. But at the moment it is not necessary because enough humans are willing to donate blood.
So Vampires drink animal blood, especially pig blood. because it is very similar, but nothing is as healthy, and tasty, to them as human blood.

Humans can survive without water for three days and without food for three weeks. It's about the same for vampires, only that they need blood in addition.
They crave blood like humans crave water. The problem is that humans don't have to kill someone or something to get water, when they are dehydrating.
The worst thing a vampire can do is going into the public on it's third day without blood.

3. Yes, they have fangs. Usually they are retracted and they only extend them to feast of a body.
When retracted they are slightly sharper and longer than humans canines. When you meet one on the streets, you'd never notice them unless you'd really look for it and pay attention. But even then no common human would assume he or she is talking to a vampire.
The teeth have one very special characteristic, but more on this later.

4. No, they don't die in the sunlight, but yes it's uncomfortable for them to stay in the sun for too long. But that's because of their eyes. They evolved to see better in the dark, therefore they take in more light.

5. Speaking of the eyes: the only way to recognise a vampire, without extended fangs, is by their eyes. They have nearly completely black eyes with a small circle around the pupils, which is differencing in color from individual to individual. When they experience strong emotions like anger, happiness or lust, the circle takes over the complete eye, resulting in bright colored eyes. The easiest way to describe that transformation would be, that it looks like a whole universe is created in them.

They can hide it with contacts but before the invention of the modern contacts in the 1930s/1940s, vampires were very easy to detect.

6. Yes, they die when their heart gets pierced with a stake. But, duh, who wouldn't die from that.

7. Yes, they can hypnotize you in some kind of way. When you get lost in a vampires eyes, you can't help but act on their command. It's even easier for them to control you, when you're attracted to them.Don't ask me why, it is what it is and not even the vampires themselves have an explanation for it.

8. No, they can't transform into a bat.

9. They are stronger and faster than humans. They have it easier to gain muscles or build up their stamina. Also their hearing and sense of smell is superior to humans.

10. Some short facts: no, they don't need an invitation to enter ones house, no, they don't hate garlic, yes, you can see them in a mirror.

11. Last but not least, yes, they can turn a human into one of their species. But you wonder why? You can't just change the DNA of a human. Uuuuuhm...they can. Remember that the teeth have one special characteristic? They can inject some mixture of venom and a virus. That basically alters a humans DNA.
It's a long and painful procedure of several days up to multiple weeks. Based on how strong the body fights against it and wether the human dies from the pain and stress or not.The vampires can decide if they want to inject that potion or not. But they have to learn it. Young vampires should learn to control it before they feast directly of a living human.

There are also half-vampires out there. They are the result of the intercourse of a human and a vampire. But they are very rare, because vampires tend to stay among themselves and don't have romantically relationships with humans. And it can only happen if the mother is human. Female vampires always give birth to vampires, no matter what species the father is. Most half-vampires are born because a male vampire raped a female human. They don't have all traits of a vampire and when they have, the traits are not as distinctive.Ever wondered how that 80 year old actress still looks like 50? Without an excessive amount of plastic surgery?Or why that nerd in your school is faster than some of the guys from the track and field team? Without training?Or why that sports stars serious injury is healed after three months, when other people have to sit out for at least six months? You may know why.

"Vampire" is just a word and although they call themselves vampires, I'm convinced they are way more like that...I like to refer to them as advanced humans. Human 2.0 you could say.

Vampires are living among themselves, preferably in groups to protect each other. But outside of their home, they have the persona of a normal human being.
The cute girl from your class you have a crush on? In two years when you graduate from High School and go to college, she will move to another state, maybe another country and start living as someone else. She will again join High School and be someone elses crush for four years.
Or how about the man in the suit, you accidentally bumped into yesterday, because you were too focused on your phone? You'll never know...

But of course there's also a sad side to the history of vampires. They got hunted in the past, killed. Humans were always in predominance. Now more than ever.
Back then, people believed that red haired women were witches or schizophrenic people were possessed by the devil. Of course everyone in the village also believed when someone said that he saw Mattheus the butcher biting a prostitue, sucking the blood out of her neck.

Luckily, nowadys the human society labels everyone, who thinks vampires exist, as crazy.
Do YOU think, that just one picture or video on the internet of a so called "vampire" is real?
If yes, than I'm sorry to tell you that 96.8% of the worlds population would say you're crazy.
The other 3.2% are vampires...and me. :)

And before I forget to mention it, I don't write fictions. I'm just someone who knows the right people...or the wrong people, if you don't fancy them.
