Hermione stood there in disbelief. Hagrid had fallen to the ground with Harry in his arms. The pair of them were dead. Voldemort had just laughed.
What was she to do? How could she possibly beat this? It was at that moment, when Neville stepped forward, about to make a speech, when Voldemort murdered him, and Hermione knew, it was over, Aberforth had been right. They had been stupid to even try, and now, Harry was dead, Ginny was dead, Hagrid was dead and Neville was dead.
She fell to her knees and sobbed.
Hermione woke with a start, tears pouring down her face, she had had the same dream for weeks, ever since they lost the battle last May. It was September and Hermione was back in that dreaded place. Malfoy Manor. She only knew because Draco had told her. He would sometimes come and talk to her so she didn't go mad. He might have been their enemy but she was glad of the company.
She sat up on the cold concrete floor. She didn't know what was going to happen. They had to have something in store, or they would have just killed her, right? She felt alone. Who did she have left. Maybe if she reached out to Ron, he would come back and rescue her, she just needed a way to contact him.
Maybe Draco could help her.
Suddenly the door flew open. Bellatrix Lestrange stood there cackling.
Hermione had had a few visits from her in the past. None of them had been pleasant. She braced herself for the curse, when all she felt was Bellatrix grabbing her hair and pulling her into the light. She was thrown on the floor.
"So, Mudblood, you're getting out of here. You're going to be free. If you can survive. You must live in a house. With 12 of your classmates. Your task is to do as we say, and you'll be fine! How about it? Too late! You're going! Have fun bye byeeee!" Bellatrix practically screamed whilst running around the hall cackling with laughter.
Hermione had been touched a portkey, which brought her to a house.
She looked around and saw people she recognised.
"Ron!! Oh I've missed you!"
Ron turned around and walked away from her.
Well fuck him then. Who cares what he thinks. Hermione looked around at everyone else in the room.
Seamus, Cho Chang, Hannah Abbott, Ernie Macmillan, Justin Finch-Fletchly, Anthony Goldstein, Michael Corner, then a couple slytherins she had seen around, but didn't know.
She counted, including herself, there was 11 of them, there was a pop, and Draco Malfpy stood there. He looked around the room, and his eyes came to rest on Hermione.
They were all silent, until Ernie spoke, "Does anyone know anything? What are we all doing here?"
Hermione spoke, "Bellatrix said something to me. But it's not much. We have to complete tasks, and we can be free, if we survive."
They looked around at each other and all thought the same thing, "one of us is going to die."
"Why don't we split up and look around?" Cho suggested.
Ron and Seamus went off in one direction, and the rest split up respectively, until it was just Hermione and Draco left.
"Granger, I'm no more happy about being here than you are. I was meant to be safe, but I'm not, if I'm going to survive in here I'm going to need allies. So? What do you say, want to call a truce?"
"Yeah, okay, this place gives me the creeps, I don't want to be here on my own."
The pair started upstairs.
They looked at a series of doors. There was 6. 3 either side.Hermione opened the first one, to see 2 separate single beds, with a connecting washroom.
"Looks like we're not leaving anytime soon." Hermione sighed.
"What do you say partner? You want to share a room?" Draco asked.
"Sure. But, we don't have any of our stuff," Hermione walked over to the cupboard and opened it.
"Draco? Is this your stuff? Mines on the other half."
"Yeah. Hermione come look at this." Hermione walked over to where he was standing and saw where the windows were.
"What about it?"
"Try touching the window."
Hermione put her hand onto the glass and felt a force pushing her backwards as she fell to the floor. Draco put his hand out to help her up.
"They don't want us leaving." Draco said.
"Come on let's go find the others."
Meanwhile,
"What's your problem man?" Seamus asked."What do you mean?"
"You just shunned Hermione like you'd never seen her before, when you've been best friends for years. What happened?"
"Are you kidding?" Ron asked, "I can't talk to her! I haven't seen her since I left her and Harry in the middle of a forest somewhere. I regret it so much, maybe if I'd stayed, they might have stood a chance, but I left and never came back. She probably hates me."
"I don't think so. I think she misses you. We don't know what's going to happen to us in this house, but whatever it is, it won't be good. Try to befriend her again. We don't have time for petty squabbles in this place." Seamus replied.
They walked up to a door, "Do you think it opens?" Ron asked.
Seamus pushed it and it opened. "Hey! Look what's out here!"
Ron stepped outside, there was a beautiful pool and 12 sun loungers.
"Wow."
Soon everyone was outside.
"So, what's everyone found out?" Cho asked.
"We found some bedrooms. There's 6, and they have 2 beds in each, once we left, the door said our names on it and our stuff appeared there, before we get on with all of this, how about we introduce ourselves? I don't know everyone here." Hermione said.
"Yeah sure." Everyone nodded In agreement.
"How about we go and change into something more appropriate then, because there's 12 of us, this could take a while."
