*Onyx pov*
I was in the cafeteria with Ruby leaning on my shoulder while I was reading jedi texts. Thankfully I brought some journals and texts from the ancient times so I won't get bored. I cast a glance towards Ruby and smiled warmly at her.
Ruby: Did anyone ever tell you that you are comfy?
Onyx: *chuckles* Nope. Only by you my sweet flower.
Weiss: *scoffs* Get a room you two.
Onyx: What? Are you jealous Ice Queen?
Weiss: Of course not.
Onyx: Whatever you say.
My scroll vibrated. I checked to see why it was and saw I had a message from Ozpin. He wants to meet me in his office, as usual.
Onyx: Sorry to cut this short, but I have to go.
Ruby: Is it Ozpin again?
Onyx: Yeah. Sorry.
Ruby: It's ok. Just don't get into trouble.
Onyx: *chuckles* No promises.
I got up and left to Ozpin's office.
*Ruby pov*
I watched as Onyx left. Ever sense we came to Beacon, Ozpin has been calling him to his office whenever he's available.
Blake: Has anyone else noticed that Ozpin calls Onyx to his office a lot?
Ruby: Oh my gosh thank you! I thought I was the only one.
Yang: It has been happening a lot.
Weiss: I wonder why though?
Nora: Maybe Onyx is Ozpin's long lost son.
We all looked at her.
Weiss: That doesn't make sense Nora. They look nothing alike.
Ruby: Plus, Ozpin didn't know Onyx until that night we were accepted.
Yang: I remember Onyx saying his parents are dead as well.
Blake: Then who raised him?
Yang: Khem Val, his uncle.
Weiss: You mean The Khem Val? As in the faunus huntsman that single handedly took down The Tamers.
Ruby: Yup, that very same one.
Pyrrha: How is he Onyx's uncle? I don't really see the resemblance.
Yang: Khem was a close friend to Onyx's father from what I heard. So he is Onyx's honorary uncle. Apparently Onyx's father was considered the greatest swordsman of his time before he died.
Weiss: Interesting. I will have to look up who that man is then.
Yang: You do that then.
*Ozpin pov*
I was in my office with Onyx. These talks we have are both informative and enjoyable. I find it surprising that someone so young could be so wise. Currently, he and I are playing a game of chess as a way to make this meeting more interesting. Turns out we are more evenly matched then I anticipated.
Onyx: I assume you wish to know more about me as usual?
Ozpin: Am I that transparent?
Onyx: It's not hard to figure it out once you put the pieces together.
Ozpin: You are a clever man for your age.
Onyx: I had good teachers.
Ozpin: I can tell. Would you like me to get you some coffee or tea?
Onyx: I would like tea. No need to get up, I got it.
Soon the objects in the coffee area started floating in the air and make tea. I wager this is another one of his unique abilities since it doesn't seem to come from his aura. This is another thing I wish to know about. Before I knew it, a steaming cup of green tea was floating towards Onyx until he took it into his hands.
Ozpin: That is quite the trick you got there.
Onyx: One of many.
Ozpin: And I suppose this is one of your many secrets.
Onyx: We all have secrets Ozpin. I wouldn't expect you to be any different.
Ozpin: What exactly are you implying?
Onyx: Don't deny it. You are hiding something under the school. I sense the power it gives off.
I was distraught at his ability to sense the maiden under the school. How on Remnant could he do that? I need to tread carefully and make sure he doesn't get the wrong idea. I've seen what he can do and I'd rather not have him on the wrong side.
Ozpin: I will not deny there is something under the school, but understand that I am not your enemy. I have my reasons for hiding these things.
Onyx: And I have my reasons as well Ozpin. Be warned however, if you bring harm to my friends or the innocent, I will stop you.
I saw the fire in his silver eyes telling me he wasn't joking. Never before have I seen so much passion or seriousness in someone so young.
Ozpin: Then let me assure you, I will do everything in my power to protect my students and the people. I wouldn't wish for them to be put in any danger, but this is a school to train warriors after all.
Onyx: You may be right. By the way, Checkmate.
I looked at the board and saw that he won. I acknowledge my defeat and extended my hand.
Ozpin: You win this one. Good game.
He hesitantly took my hand and shook it.
Onyx: Good game. If I may, I wish to leave.
Ozpin: You may. Before you leave, let me tell you that you have no need to worry. We are ready for what is coming.
Onyx looked my way before entering the elevator.
Onyx: Maybe, but ask yourself this. What if you are wrong?
The elevator doors closed. I sighed knowing he had a point.
Ozpin: I hope I am not. You may come out Glynda.
She stepped out from where she was hiding as she was observing us.
Glynda: He is quite a mystery isn't he, Ozpin?
Ozpin: Indeed he is.
Glynda: I'm surprised he didn't notice I was here.
Ozpin: He did, but he chose to not point it out.
That seemed to shock her.
Glynda: Then are you certain we can trust him? He knows more then he lets on and has a power we know nothing about. How do we know he won't go rampant and join our enemy?
Ozpin: His eyes.
Glynda: Pardon?
Ozpin: His eyes tell me what kind of person he is. He is a warrior willing to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He is a protector that is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. Above all, he represents somethings no hunter has.
Glynda: And what would they be?
Ozpin: Passion and hope.
