"Phoenix?!" he cried. "You mean the guy that kidnapped you?!"

"Ye-" she howled in agony, screaming her lungs out. Jered did his best to comfort her. He scooped her up and lay her head on his chest.

"Please!" she sobbed. "He's going to get me. He'll take me back! Don't let him!"

"I-I won't," Jered promised though he was still confused. "I swear I won't."

"He's... here... " she whispered and then fell into a deep sleep.

Valor fluttered her eyes open and gaped. She ended up lying on her back and everything was white. Blank. Empty. She gritted her teeth and balled her fists. Slowly getting up, she rubbed her hip and stumbled forward.

"Amica mea, why did you run from me?" a familiar voice echoed in the distance. Valor froze suddenly feeling terrified. It got eerily silent which made Valor shiver. "I have feelings for you, you know..." The voice was closer as if it was right behind her. So it was. Valor whirled around and yelped, hopping forward. She was in another pocket dimension.

"I don't want to put you in any pain," he whispered, appearing right in front of her and causing her to fall back. Luckily Phoenix swept his hands and caught her, a very fast reflex.

"You already did!" she snapped, stepping back. "Kidnapping my mother! I hate you Phoenix! You know that right?"

"No you don't," he said calmly, chuckling darkly. He stepped forward and put a hand on her cheek. Valor backed away.

"What's wrong, puella?" he asked her, surprised by the sudden movement. "Do you not trust me anymore?"

"Don't you dare touch me! I should have never trusted you from the beginning!" she yelled and swiped at his face as an attack. He ducked and laughed some more.

"Your mother would have been disappointed, my love," he smirked. "Tsk tsk. If she were here, I could only imagine the look on her face. You can't defeat me." He whispered into her ear slowly, "Morsu me."

"You don't know my mother as I do," she swung at him for a punch, but Phoenix blocked it, a sly smile on his face as he lowered her arm down without a struggle.

She stared at his fixed position and grunted, trying to fight back, but eventually, she gave up. Why did I take Greek and Spanish but not Greek and Latin? She mentally kicked herself. Because I don't even know what he means.

"Oh, but I do," Phoenix said schemingly, a hand now on Valor's chin. "Sh-she was... a friend..." He was suddenly choking up inside. Valor goggled at his depressing voice. "A friend who worked for me."

I don't believe him, Valor thought, narrowing her eyes at him. I thought mom was a poet. I don't believe any lies he's telling me- I won't!

"But just because I created an amazing creature, a hairvire it was called, and released it, it killed her parents," he said, rolling his eyes. "She mistakenly blamed me for the murder."

"My mother NEVER makes a mistake," she whisper-yelled. She slowly pulled out a knife and kept it hidden behind her back, without a sound.

"Of course she does," Phoenix grinned. "Everyone does, just like Kristal. But, ah, you fail to see it."

Valor ignored his statement and asked him, "But why me?"

"Hm?"

"Why me? Why choose me? I'm nothing specia-" She gasped, as Phoenix pulled her close to his chest, her face buried in his suit and his hands on her back, calming her down.
