I stared at the clock above me, watching the time pass. It felt like hours had gone by, but it was only a few minutes. The silence, which was accompanied by the noise of the clock, was soothing against the loud sound of my thoughts. It contrasted greatly, but it had a peaceful effect.
Soon, both my thoughts and the silence we're interrupted by the door. "Hello, baby? Are you okay?" my mother asks, and I use no words to answer. She'll get the idea. She takes it as an invite and pulls me into a much-needed hug, lightly rocking us back and forth.
I try hard to keep the tears back, but I know that I can't for much longer. It's only a matter of time until the stinging comes and my cheeks are soaked. "It's okay," she whispers and I only cry harder. "I know."
The funny thing is, she doesn't know. Well, in this state, that's all I can comprehend. Nobody understands and I'm alone in this godforsaken place. I will always be alone.AN
