“Cassie!” The boy smiles at a blonde at the end of the hallway. His hair is neat, he made sure before he stepped out the door of his quarters. His face is clean-shaven, with carefulness. He made sure everything was perfect, that he was perfect, or at least as close to perfect as she was.

“Oh, hey Sam.” She smiles back. “What’s up?”

“I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go gazing or something? There is a meteor shower tonight, heard it’s spectacular.” He feels as if he’s already stargazing just looking in her grey eyes.

“Sam, don’t you have an assignment lately?” She frowns slightly. He puts out his arm for her in response.

“She’s asleep.”

She puts her arm through his and they walk towards the courtyard. It was beautiful, one of the first things in the complex. It was even rumored to be the center of it at one time. That’s why they called it the Cor Caeli, or Heart of Heaven.

The two angels spend all night watching the shower, and Sam couldn’t be happier. This is finally what he wanted and nothing could ruin it.

They lay side by side, Cassie looking up while Sam watches her. She notices his staring and turn her head to face him, their noses brushing together. They both know what’s about to happen, Sam’s heart beating faster than ever.

“Sam Ferron!” An official storms into the courtyard, clearly angry. The boy scrambles to his feet with Cassie behind him. “You are assigned to Victoria Silinski, correct? And she is to live until old age, correct?”

“Uh…” He glances at Cassie. “Yes, sir, but she’s asleep, perfectly safe.”

“Then tell me, Sam,” he walks closer to the shaking inferior angel’s figure. “Why is Victoria Silinski dead, at only seventeen?”

The young Prophecy Angel’s heart stops. He feels fire burn between his shoulderblades as if his wings are already lit. That is yet to come.
