That night Naomi had one of her dreams. She had had it before, but this time seems all the more real. She was standing in a park. Looking around she realized this was the park she used to play at when she was young. It was when she was still living in Japan. Suddenly arms wrapped around her.
"________!" Naomi turned around to see someone with brown hair and kind eyes. It was her childhood friend. How could she forget that?
"What's wrong ________." Naomi just cried.
"Mom says we might be leaving." She said through tears. She couldn't keep it together.
"Come here." Once again Naomi was wrapped in strong arms. They walked hand in little hand over to the swings. For a while, they just quietly sat looking at the surrounding buildings. There was a red house on the hill. Naomi always said she wanted to live in that house. Something about that house-made her happy.
"Promise me you'll always stay by my side." Naomi laughed through her tears and held out her pinky.
"Promise!"
Naomi shot out of bed. It took a moment for her to gather her thoughts before she laid back down. Looking over at her clock. Realizing she had plenty of time she rolled out of bed. First, she showered before she put on her uniform. Most of the girls wore paneled skirts in jasper. They're paired with striped socks and pumps colored in black and jasper. Like the boys, the girls wear long-sleeved shirts, which were always tucked into their skirts and were covered with a narrow jacket. The girls too wore a tie that playfully hung in the middle of their often buttoned-up jackets. The uniforms were mandatory, but each student wore accessories that seemed to bring their own identity into the standard uniform. Naomi did no such thing. She only wore mascara and a little lip balm, but that was it. She didn't like to fuss too much. She just wanted to get done with Gymnasium, so she could move on to college. Naomi had decided to go abroad to get her medical license. She was ready to set away from everything and become her own person. She had grown up her whole life being told what she will do. Who she will become. In two short years, she would fly overseas and start her own life. She would do and be who she wanted. Each day was one step closer.
"You can do anything!" Honey eyes smiled at her. Naomi remembered those words from a friend she could barely remember. They were the words that pushed her to become who she wanted to be. Smiling Naomi sat down to breakfast with her parents before running out the door. She stopped in an instant. There on the other side of the street was none other than Sam. The blue bike leaned against a stone wall nearby. Naomi couldn't help but smile when she saw those amber eyes. Sam had gray hair that was clearly dyed which was against the school regulations but since it was already done there wasn't much they could do. What really struck Naomi as odd was how long the hair was. Sam can pull it off though. She thought to herself as she crossed the street.
"Morning!" Naomi said Sam grabbed the blue bike.
"Guten Tag." Sam said back, removing the kickstand. It struck Naomi as odd. Why bring a bike if you don't plan to ride it? Or, maybe Sam rides it to my house and then walks, so we can talk. Makes sense. They walked on when Naomi remembered what she was going to ask.
"Hey, Sam, why do you know Japanese?" Sam paused for a moment before continuing down the lane. Cars passed by and a few students wearing the same uniform walked in front of them.
"My father is Japanese and my mother is American. They're separated now. My mother and I are living with my grandma Klara." Sam looked out at the road ahead. The other students were laughing and goofing off. They were being kids. Something Sam didn't have growing up.
