Dead

Lily and James Potter, two of my best friends are dead, and it's all Peter Pettigrew's fault. I thought there was something wrong with that man but never did i ever suspect he would sacrifice two of his best friends' lives to save his own. What a coward. What a fucking coward

the news hit me like a bullet to the chest but i see that Sirius seems to have taken it like a grenade to the face because he's on his knees, balling. I hurry over to him and drop down to his side, putting my arms around him, silent tears streaming down my cheeks as we grieve the loss of our best friends

"Harry" croaks Sirius, looking up at me with bloodshot eyes "we need to see Harry, Dumbledore said he survived but I need to protect him, make sure he's ok" says Sirius, i nod, we stand up and seconds later we are no longer in our living room but on the doorstep of what was Lily and James' house in Godric's Hollow, now completely destroyed.

Sirius takes no time to wait and take in the damage, he runs inside and i follow in his wake. He gets half way up the stairs, however, and stops abruptly and when i catch up i see why.

laying down on the stairs is James Potter's limp, lifeless body, his glasses askew and his face pale. Sirius seems frozen by shock "Sirius, Harry" i say softly in his ear, he nods "right, Harry, yeah" says Sirius mindlessly as he passes James' body. This is hard for me too but i need to be there for Sirius. James, Lily and I were the only family he had, now its just me and his godson, Harry.

We stop again outside what seems to be Harry's nursery, inside is a crying Harry with no damage done to him except a lightning bolt shaped cut on his forehead.

I then see what Sirius is staring at. Lily. Her body, like James', limp and lifeless on the floor at the foot of Harry's cot.

Sirius picks Harry up and cradles him in his arms, kissing his forehead "it's ok, little man, your uncle Sirius is here" says Sirius softly to Harry.

then i hear something outside and we hastily walk down the stairs only to find Hagrid standing gobsmacked outside the destruction that was the Potter's house.

"YOU" bellows Hagrid, pointing a large finger af Sirius "yeh ruddy traitor" says Hagrid in an accusatory tone "an' yeh, 'ow could yeh stan' there with 'im" says Hagrid pointing at me

"Hagrid neither of us were secret keepers" i say calmly "y-yeh wha?" asks Hagrid confused "i-i though' it were common sense to 'ave Sirius as secret keeper" stutters Hagrid "i-i was their first choice but i thought that would've been too easy and predictable and i wasn't trustworthy enough, so i told them to use Remus but he agreed with me and said Peter was better off but- i guess this is my fault, i should've taken on the job" replies Sirius, he hands me Harry

"what're you doing here, Hagrid?" asks Sirius "here to take 'Arry" replies Hagrid "surely i should take him, i'm his godfather after all" argues Sirius, Hagrid shakes his head "Dumbledore says tha' the ministry'll think this is yeh fault an' unless yeh can prove it were tha' Peter feller then yer outta luck. I'll be takin 'im to 'is aunt 'n uncles for 'im to stay till 'es ol' enough ter go ter Hogwarts" replies Hagrid

"fine then, just wait here" says Sirius and with a crack he's gone. I hand Harry over to Hagrid and just as i do so, Sirius appears again but this time holding his motorcycle "it's a flying bike, Hagrid, so i know that you and Harry will have a safe journey" states Sirius as he gives the bike to Hagrid who seems cautious but takes it anyways

"i 'spect yeh wanna say goodbye" says Hagrid, Sirius nods and takes Harry one last time "i'll see you again, i promise i will and i'll make up for lost time, son" says Sirius before kissing Harry's forehead and handing him to me, i merely cuddle him and say goodbye before handing him to Sirius who hands him back to Hagrid who flies off without another word

"Sirius" i say as i wrap my arms around him to comfort him as he watches Hagrid fly out of sight

"why did i tell them to trust Peter? Peter of all people. I should've taken the job, i would've realized it's my best friends' lives i would've been protecting. Maybe then none of this would've happened" says Sirius l, i shake my head and kiss the top of his head

"no, Sirius, don't beat yourself up, you thought they were safer in someone else's hands, how were you meant to know this was going to happen, this isn't your fault, this is Peter's fault, we should blame him" i state

"but for now we should go back, you heard what Hagrid said, the ministry will think it's you, Sirius, they'll be after you because they think you're the one who sold them out to Voldemort" i continue "he also said unless i find proof it wasn't me. Peter is proof it wasn't me, I need to find Peter, i need to confront him and turn him in to the ministry" states Sirius

"you can't be serious, you can't go after him you haven't got a clue where he is he could be miles away for all we know. Sirius please" i say, worry tainting my voice

"I need to avenge Lily and James, Remus, it's the least i can do, can't you see? James was like a brother to me, i need to avenge him, i need to get justice for him" replies Sirius but before i can retort he's gone and i'm left on my own.
