Chapter 56 ● Denial and guilt ○

Valley, Michael, Luke, Daphne and Ashton leave the bar. Ashton carries Calum in his unconscious form with him. "Where are we going now?" Michael asks Daphne. "Can you guys enter Calum's house?" She questions in reply to Michael. "Yeah, he gave  each of us a key to his place in case something happens" Luke answers Daphne. "Then let's go to his house, he'll feel most comfortable being there" she replies.

The six of them go into the vehicle they came in. "So, can you explain how you said you couldn't get Calum out of Darren's mind but did it anyway?" Ashton asks Daphne. "I changed the wording of a different spell, it was kind of an experimental move I really wasn't sure if it'll work or not" she replies to him. "Oh okay, so that's why you said you couldn't" Michael asks her. "Yeah that's it basically" she replies to him. "I'm worried about Calum" Valley tells them. "I am too" Ashton replies to her. "I wonder what Darren made him do" Luke wonders out loud. "We'll have to wait for Calum to gain back his consciousness to find out" Daphne replies to him. "I hope it's nothing too awful" Valley replies back.

A few minutes later they reach Calum's house. Luke unlocks the door with the keys he has that Calum had given him ages ago. They all enter except Valley as Calum didn't invite her in yet. Ashton lays Calum down on his couch. "I say some of us stay with Calum while the rest of us go out with Valley" Michael suggests. "I'll stay out with Valley" Daphne replies. "Okay then the three of us can stay with Cal" Luke replies. "Sounds like a plan, I hope he'll wake up soon" Daphne replies as she walks out to keep Valley company.

A few minutes later. No, I didn't do those things, that wasn't real was it? That was a dream or something; I didn't kill those people. I did NOT kill those people. That didn't happen. But it did because was unconscious a little while ago. It's not possible that I didn't do it. I don't want to wake up to face reality I can't... this is too much... This is all my fault I shouldn't have gone to the meeting Darren arranged. Calum thinks to himself.

"Didn't Daphne say the last time she gave him the potion he woke up after about 10 minutes?" Luke asks them getting a little impatient for Calum to wake up. "Maybe it's different this time because he was a vampire for longer" Michael replies to Luke. "Or maybe he's not ready to face the reality of the things Darren made him do" Ashton replies to both of them. "But he didn't mean to do those things, he should know that" Luke responds to Ashton. "I don't know if he knows that or not" he responds back.

"I hope Calum will be alright, he's probably in a terrible mindset right now" Valley tells Daphne. "I'm sure he'll be fine once he wakes up and talks to his friends about everything that's been going on" she replies to her. "I think it'll take a bit more than that for him to be completely fine, I've been through something very similar and I'm still traumatised by the past, I hope I will be able to help him get the closest to fine he can get and then he can figure out the rest" she replies back to her. "You seem to be pretty concerned about him, do you have feelings for him?" She responds to her and asks her a question. "I don't know if I do in the way you're implying, but what I do know is I do feel like I need to be there for him, I understand a lot of what he's been going through and it'll make things a lot easier if I can be there to answer some of his questions and whatever about Darren and give him advice" she answers her question. "That's really sweet Valley" she replies to her. "Thank you, okay enough about this for now, I'm curious how did you manage to keep Dare distracted while we convinced Calum to drink the potion?" She replies to her and changes the topic by asking her a question. "I told him I was falling in love with his brother" she answers her. "OMG! Is it true?! Are you in love with Cade?!" She replies enthusiastic about where this new conversation topic has taken them. "Please don't say anything to him, but yes I love Cade I've been in love with him since the time we were working together while Dare was still messing with you, I've just been terrified of confessing my feelings to him" she tells her.
 
I can do this, I need to face reality, I'm done being a coward and hiding from it longer than I should have, I feel guilty about doing all those things I did as a vampire but I'm still alive and I'm human again now, it won't change the fact that I did those things, but what's the point of living if I'm just going to be unconscious like this forever? Calum thinks to himself opening his eyes at least now the lights aren't as bright as they appeared to him when he woke up as a vampire. He didn't even get the chance to think about that with Darren controlling him. "Calum you're awake!" Luke tells him excitedly. "Yes, I'm aware of that" he replies to him the tone of his voice indicating he's feeling down. "What's on your mind Cal? You can tell us, we'll support you" Ashton asks him noticing the tone he used to say that. "I really don't want to talk about that right now, I'll tell all of you eventually though" Calum replies to him. "That's understandable" he replies back. "I'm going go tell the ladies outside Calum's woken up" Michael tells them and starts going outside. "Valley and Daphne are here too?" Calum asks. "Yeah they are, they came here with us" Michael pauses his walking and replies to him and then continues walking again. "Valley can't enter your house so Daphne stayed out with her to keep her company" Ashton tells Calum. "Oh right, I need to invite her in then" he replies as he goes to follow the route Michael took just seconds ago.

"Hey you two, I'm sorry you both had to stay out for so long" Calum greets Daphne and Valley. "Hi Calum, How are you feeling?" Valley greets him back and asks how he's feeling. "I'm okay I guess" he replies to her. "Hi, I'm glad you're okay" Daphne greets him. "Thanks" he replies to her. Michael and Daphne go back inside. "Valley, you may enter my home" Calum tells her. Then both Calum and Valley enter his house too as he invited her in.

"It's so great that you're human again, I can't imagine all the terrible things Darren made you do as a vampire" Daphne tells Calum as they're all settling in the living room of Calum's house. "I'm happy to be free from his control but it isn't just Darren who's at fault here, I was foolish to let it get this far and at least some of the responsibility of my actions is on me" he replies to her. "What did you do as a vampire that's so terrible?" Michael asks curiously. "I suppose you can imagine all the terrible things I did, I really just don't want to think about that right now, I need to distract myself from all of this, I'm going on a walk, I'll see you guys later" Calum tells them walking out of his house.

Calum walks around the area. He enjoys the breeze hitting his body helping him clear his head a bit. He then walks to a nearby park and once he reaches he finds a bench and sits down on it. He then picks up his phone and scrolls through Twitter. Then he sees a post that makes him feel awfully uneasy; the post is a missing person post of one of his victims from last night. He closes his eyes and opens them hoping it'll vanish from his screen and that he was just imagining it but it doesn't. I can't do this, I know exactly what happened to that person but I can't even tell anyone, they'll never believe me when I tell them the truth that I was a vampire and I murdered him cause I really needed to drink blood, and now that I'm magically human again I deeply regret everything I did, I can't believe I didn't feel any sympathy for killing all those people I killed as a vampire, I'm an evil person, I'm a villain I need advice.... maybe I should go see Dr. Gudfeels... he thinks to himself.

Cade decides pay Darren a visit. He goes to his house and rings his doorbell. Darren goes to open the door but contemplates when he realises it's Cade at the door. "What do you want Cade?" He questions him. "I heard everything that happened with Calum from Daphne, I wanna talk to you about something which would help you" he replies to him as Daphne had filled Cade in on everything that happened while she was waiting outside Calum's house with Valley. "Fine come in" he replies opening the door and letting his brother in. "Whatever you have to say you better make it quick for all I know you could be on their side feeding them info about me" he tells Cade. "Okay, I have a feeling Calum is going to go see Dr. Gudfeels and he could be going to visit anytime now, Daphne told me everything and now he's awake and she recently told me that he left his house and my guess is he's going to see his therapist" he tells his brother. "Oh okay, I better get to that office then" he replies to him. "Do you want me to go with you?" He asks him. "If you really want to come" he replies. "I'll tag along then" he replies back. The both of them go in Darren's car and drive to the dead therapist's office.

Calum walks towards the therapist's office. He reaches a while later. He rings the doorbell. He waits for a few minutes. Ugh I don't even know if he's in he thinks to himself.

Meanwhile in the office Darren and Cade are in and they hear the doorbell ringing. Darren is getting ready in the therapist's outfit. "Quick or he's going to leave!" Cade whisper shouts to Darren. "I'm doing this as quick as I can!" He whisper shouts back. "Do you think he'll recognise me?" He adds a question to his reply. "We'll have to wait and see" he answers him. Darren sends Cade a signal to hide and then opens the door but he isn't fully in costume yet as he was rushing to get ready and forgot to put on the glasses.

"Oh my gosh!" Calum exclaims as soon as the door is opened. "What's wrong?" Darren asks him. "You.... you aren't who you say you are" he replies to him. "Why don't we sit inside and we can talk about it?" He questions him. "I'm not gonna stay here any longer Darren!" He shouts. "Don't you want an explanation?" He asks him. "Nope, I just want you out of my life for good" he replies to him. "Well you came all the way here, why don't you stay?" He asks him. "I'm not staying" he replies. "Well I need to talk to you and you need to talk to me so you're staying" he replies as he drags him in and shuts the door behind them.
