Freshman year was a new start. A new start for me, for everyone. We didn't know each other, we had a new chance at being someone who we wanted to be. It wasn't in my best interest to be a "Nerd" or "Cheerleader" Type, but nonetheless I stared at the sign up sheet, my eyes glazed with the lights above me. I sighed, picking up the pen from the makeshift holder made from construction paper and tape. I looked over. VolleyBall. Hm. Theater. Maybe. I wrote my name under the two and then looked around.
My mother was always working as well as my father, they were both surgeons that went into different countries to help the sick that didn't have good medical history or insurance. They didn't set expectations on what i should and shouldn't do, other than the usual parent stuff, such as drugs and other things I wasn't ever planning on doing. I was raised mostly by my grandparent on my moms side, while my grandmother was alive she and her husband took care of me.
Since even my grandpa works, luckily not too far from my school, he drops me off early and picks me up late, unless I choose to take the bus or walk. Walking through the halls I played with the slightly heavy necklace on my neck, smoothing the dark blueish purple gem in the center. Looking around I noticed each classroom door was personally customized, probably by the teachers, so there students knew which door is which. I felt at ease, seeing the place i will spend the next 4 years in, it felt homey, now let's hope the students won't bend this feeling.
" Hey, You're early." I heard a voice behind me grab my attention, looking over I noticed a boy, dark skinned, and a square-ish afro, half blond, half black, he smiled at me, reaching out his hand. " I'm Vakentae."
I smiled, shaking his hand, trusting his touch. He sent off a good vibe off of him, he seemed trustworthy. " Yeah, sorry, my grandfather dropped me off early."
" ah! You have THOSE types of carpools, huh..." He chuckled to himself, chuckling along to him, I looked at him up and down. He wasn't much taller than me,wearing casual blue jeans, a grey cardigan on and a light shade of blue shirt under it, but what truly caught my eye was his necklace, it hung heart level around his neck, and pulled his appearance together.
" Um, what are you doing?" He laughed.
Without even noticing I leaned forward, I laughed a bit, seeing as it was awkward. " Just admiring your necklace."
" Oh!" He smiled wider, pushing the necklace on the top as it opened up to reveal a watch, " It's my favorite, plus helps a good outfit look even better."
I smiled, making eye contact. His eyes shifted, looked past me to the school clock, seeing the time he pulled out his phone to make sure it was right. " Oh boy, better get to class, well, nice to meet you, um...?"
" Oh, Eva!" I finished his sentence. " Eva, just Eva."
" Well, just Eva, I'm heading off." He turned to leave. Then it struck me.
" Wait! Do you happen to know where i can find the design class?"
He perked. " I'm going there myself, come on."
We walked through the hall to a room in the corner, almost hidden away, walking in and I noticed a collection of art works all over, random sculptures and other random objects scattered all over.
" come, " He waved me over to a table. " Me and my friend sit here, we have since last year, it's basically ours."
I smiled, knowing I was accepted, then I perked, " last year?"
" We are sophomores."
" In a freshman class?"
" This is a sophomore level class." he noted, pointing to a piece of paper waving by the entrance. " Check for your name, it would be a little weird for you to have our class."I nodded and scooted over to the pierce of paper, looking through it. I noticed my name among other names, and turned back to Vakentae. " I'm here."
"Hm, strange." He placed a finger on his chin. " Maybe you're just that good, you skipped a class." He laughed.
" It would be funny wouldn't it."
I quickly turned back to the entrance to trace the voice. Above me stood a tall girl, her hair dark dark brown, her skin a light tan, her face resembled a smile as she preseaded to walk towards Vakentae. I looked down, hearing a light click, Though quite tall, she has very low heels on, giving her a taller looking stature.
" Ah, look who finally came to class." Vakentae jokes. " Eva, this is Jack, Jack, this is Eva. Just Eva." he introduced.
The girl looked at me, her face resting, she let out a chuckle and slid down into her seat. Vakentae ushered me to come sit, as I did I saw the room flooded with students, while the two exchanged glances they laughed. I couldn't believe I was in a sophmore class, and I got to know two sophomores already! I knew it would be an exciting year.
