Prologue

         He watched, helplessly, as the door closed quietly behind her. He was terrified of confined spaces, and she knew it. 

         Under normal circumstances, he'd probably put up a fight, but this- this thing- was much stronger than him, and he knew this. She was small in stature, and didn't appear thick in any way, but somehow she looked as if she could crush the strongest man with the flick of her thumb. 

         And her eyes. Her cloudy, soulless eyes. There was nothing there. Nothing human, at least. Nothing empathetic. Nothing that gave a damn about the life of the boy in front of her. So he closed his eyes. 

         He closed his eyes and imagined that he didn't feel her wrapping her arms around his neck. Imagined that her cold flesh didn't smell like pansies and death. And last of all, he imagined that he wasn't hopelessly in love with her.
