I watch out the back window as we finally drive into our new town, Plainview. "Here we are!" Dad announces. We pull into the driveway of our new home. "Finally starting our lives together," Katherine says, kissing Dad on the cheek. I roll my eyes and turn my music up even louder.
I'm 16 years old. My Mother died when I was just a baby, so I don't remember her. But it's always been just Dad and I, until he met Katherine 3 years ago and married her. I know she isn't fond of me and would rather Dad all to herself. Dad is so brainwashed by her, that he agreed to move to a whole new town. Of course I tried to kick up a storm and change his mind, but the decision was final.
As we start to unload everything from Dad's truck, my annoying step sister, Amy, bolts off to pick her room. "Lina should have first pick of her room as she's the oldest," Dad says. For once, Katherine agrees. I go inside and choose the room furthest away from everyone, upstairs.
After a full day of unpacking, I decide to go for an afternoon walk around the neighbourhood. No wonder they call it Plainview. I don't know why Dad agreed to move here. I'm so deep in my thoughts, until I turn the corner and a white van with black letters spelling 'LÖDED DIAPER' comes speeding out of nowhere. I jump back in shock. A scruffy brown haired boy sticks his head out the window. "Sorry!" he yells, laughing, then speeds off again. Asshole. I walk straight back home as my mood has become worse. I see Amy playing out the front with some kids already while Dad and Katherine are talking to other adults. I sneak inside before I have to talk to anyone.

They all come inside and Amy is bouncing up and down with excitement. "What?" I roll my eyes at her. "Amy was hanging out with the kids next door while we met their parents. They invited us to a back-to-school party at a Roller Rink, for Westmore Middle School which Amy will start at next week," Katherine explains. "And we're all going," Dad adds. "Why do I have to come?" I groan. "Be ready at 6pm," Dad says.
