Prologue
IT WAS NOT the first time Johnny McCoy had disarmed a nuclear bomb. It was, however, the first time he had died.
That’s where I come in. They needed new operatives badly because missions all over the world were going wrong. So they took me. I was kidnapped by men in black when I was eleven, scared, and weak. Now I am fifteen, strong, and one of them.
Don’t worry--if all goes well with the Program, the kidnappings won’t ever happen again. Everything we’ve worked for these past four years was to stop that. The Program’s goal is to stop that.
I think I know more about the Program than Cami, Alex, Lilith, and maybe even Lily (which is impressive, since she’s team leader, and gets all the info--plus sometimes the juiciest gossip). To be fair, though, I only know as much as I do because I’m good at hacking.
Although there’s at least one person who knows more than me…The Program Leader. She’s the one in charge of E.C.H.O., the government organization we’re a part of, and runs it all. I think that’s why we all look up to her. She knows everything, and nobody knows anything about her. She’s perfect. The perfect spy.
