The ensuing silence ends when you hear him slide the blade from the bounty hunters chest. Blood pools around the body and around the hand. He begins to wipe his blades against the corpses coat in swift, yet precise movements. You slide your hand across the pebbled ground, searching for the fallen gun. Finding it, grasp it with your sweaty palms, pulling it towards your body before aiming it up towards the odd man.

He finishes his cleaning routine and slowly swivels his head around to look down at you. He lets out a harsh yet tinkling laugh that bounces off the walls and in your skull. His reaction puzzles you, you have a gun held on this man and yeah he laughs in your face.

"I don't look that ridiculous, do I?" You think numbly to yourself.

"I just killed a man twice your size holding that gun, what makes you think I could not do the same to you?" He chuckles.

His words make sense to you but they are blurred by agony. You spasm as a wave of pain clenches your heart and the gun clatters onto the bricks beside you. Your ears ring with the echoes of gunshots and words. Pain washes over you in waves, and just like the riptides, it threatens to pull you in and drown you.

You ease onto your bad side, shielding its weakness with the rest of your body, grunting as you do so. A gentle moan, tainted with anguish, slips from your trembling lips. His mask of amusement quickly jumps to one that shows utmost concern, an odd look on such a dangerous one.

Your head tilts to the side and falls to the ground to where all you can see is the growing pool of your own blood on the brick path and his dark figure racing towards you. You hear him whispering, or shouting, you can't tell through the haze of near death. "No, no, no" he says in that light and breathy tone that carries you off into whatever comes next.

Your world fades to black. It fades to silence. It fades into the cold. It fades into that halfway point where if someone cared to try, you might be pulled back to the living side. If no one gives notice to your cold and lifeless state, you'll slip into sweet, sweet unconscious for eternity.
