THREE WEEKS HAD PASSED, and things were changing, fast, faster than they should have been.
not only did it feel like the clock was speeding up, but lexie had picked up new, destructive habits that had made her feel at ease.
she can't remember being sober once in the past three weeks.
to be fair, she'd been good at hiding it.
miles and lexie were okay, great even, really good friends again despite their dispute that took place a few weeks back—-things were good, but there were secrets she was keeping hidden.
like her obsession with being inebriated.
tonight, was one of those nights.
just a way to take the edge off, just to fucking forget about her dead mom, the suicide she walked in on, kate's nagging whining ass voice, and a way to not think about how she had no idea what the fuck to even do with her life.
alcohol is... heaven
there was something comforting about the rain tapping on her window, a white noise to drown out the disturbing and dark chaos taking place in her bedroom.
lexie sat on the floor, back resting against her bed frame, legs stretched out in front of her, and a nearly-empty glass water bottle gripped loosely in her hand.
except it wasn't water.
it hadn't been water for days.
she had started slow. a little pour here. a little sip there. just enough to take the edge off. but tonight, the burn in her throat was what she needed to feel real. grounded. something.
the bottle clinked slightly as she set it down on the hardwood floor beside her. her head throbbed from earlier—headache, stress, withdrawal, who knew. all she knew was she wasn't sober, and she didn't want to be.
her cheek pressed into the side of her bed as she closed her eyes. her heartbeat was loud in her ears.
then, knocking on her door quickly shot them open like lightning.
she didn't answer, in fact, she simply panicked at how fucking annihilated she was, it would have been obvious to anyone on the other side of that door, and in that moment she wasn't sure if kate or miles would've been a better option.
"lexie?" miles' voice came through the wood, causing her stomach to drop as she scrambled to sit up quickly, "shit!" she whisper shouted to herself as she attempted to straighten herself out.
