Dani ducked down and darted forward, barley being missed by its claws. A deep growl rumbled from it as it landed behind her and turned to strike again. With thoughts racing she forced herself past the heart, trying her best to not disturb it. On the other side she saw the damage that the evil little beast had done. The rest of the inside of the snake was completely black. Blood vessels had been ripped open and bones had been broken. She was surprised that the snake was still able to move.

A shiver ran down her spin as she heard the beast make another noise as it made its way to where she was. Thinking fast she grabbed one of the broken bones and pulled it free. Blood squirted out from where it had been and she made a mental note to apologize for that later. Whipping around, she swung the piece of bone hitting the stupid little thing as it jumped at. It went flying back over the heart, skidding against the ground.

Slipping past the heart again she charged it with the piece of bone lifted above her head. Giving it no time to react she brought the bone down hard. A giggle escaped the creature as its hand shot out and grabbed hold of the bone. Where it touched turned black and disintegrated, giving her a much smaller weapon.

“Dirty little cheat.” She growled bitterly, taking a few steps back as it swiped at her with its claws to get her away.

Her grip on the bone tightened as it picked itself up, “Do you know what you are even doing?” She tried to keep her voice calm, “You’re helping to destroy this world, your killing innocent beings. Don’t you know that if this world dies then you die with it!?”

The beast stared at her, cocking its head to the side as it trying to understand her. Its mouth split into a grin again and he charged towards her with its horns. Closing her eyes tightly she planted her feet firmly and pointed the bone straight at it. The beast ran straight into it, the bone going clean through its head. Her eyes shot open and she quickly let go of the bone as black ooze came from the things head and moved over the bone. A frown came to her face when she noticed that its arm was out stretched past her.

Her gaze trailed over it to see what it had been after, widening when she saw it. The beast’s claws were dug deeply inside the heart sending thousands of little black lines to speed over it. She backed up in shock as blackness devoured the heart, its beats slowing. Quickly she turned and ran back down the length of the snake.

“Let me out!” She cried when she felt she was getting near the mouth. She was right when it opened, letting harsh light in along with fresh air. Her warm skin welcomed the cool water that touched her as soon as she stepped out.

Tears filled her eyes and she turned to face the great and dying snake, “I am so sorry, I couldn’t save you.”

“Hush now child, you did save me. It did not matter what you did, I was going to die no matter what. I am old and my time is done, but my child’s has just started. She will hatch soon and I wanted that evil to be gone before she comes to be, I know it would have gone for her. Take her to the village; they will know what to do with her. You have saved them girl, good job.” Slowly the Snake’s eyes closed its body glistening as light touched its scales.

Dani wiped away her tears and looked around to see where they were. It was a clearing of no trees and the water was shallower then in the rest of the marsh. A very small island was close to her with a nest resting on it. An egg the size of a puppy sat in the nest, its coloring reminded her of Easter eggs. Slowly she walked over and picked it up. It was warm and she could feel something moving around inside of it.
