pic of Skylar up top^
========================================
I sigh as I roll over and throw my leg over Skylar's torso. She groans from where she's laying on the other side of the bed.
"Get off me," Skylar complains. I refuse. She groans again, but then stills. "What time is it?"
I roll over towards the nightstand, pulling my phone off the charger. "11:30."
She rolls over so I can partially see her face. "Let's go get something to eat. I'm hungry and you have no food."
"I have plenty of food," I grumble. I sit up anyway, swinging my legs off my bed. Skylar follows suit.
Within fifteen minutes we are both in leggings, big hoodies, and messy buns, throwing ourselves into my car. Skylar is blabbering on the phone to place our order at our favorite hibachi place. We roll down the windows and turn up the music as loud as it will go. Skylar turns down the volume when I pull into a parking space in front of the hibachi place. We step out of the car, and walk into the hibachi place side by side, cracking jokes and giggling about old jokes.
Skylar is facing me, mid sentence, when she pulls open the door and instead of walking inside, walks into someone's chest.
"Whoa!" She says.
"Oops, sorry, bruh."
"Maddi!"
"Nolan!"
Everyone is speaking over each other in surprise, clogging up the entryway of the hibachi place.
"What are y'all doing here?" I say, internally panicking due to the fact that I was certainly not expecting to see Nolan today.
"We're getting something to eat. Duh," The boy next to Nolan says.
The boy leans into Nolan's side and whispers obviously, "Who's the chicks?"
Nolan smacks his lips, "Jacob, my, uh, friend Maddi and her friend..."
"Skylar," Skylar supplies. I'm too stunned to say anything. "Excuse us."
Nolan steps back, still pulling Jacob by his jacket.
"Nice to meet you too!" Jacob says with a laugh.
"Yeah, we better get going. I'll see you tomorrow though, right, Maddi?" Nolan asks, loudly and I immediately wish he didn't.
"Yeah! Yeah, um," I can feel Sky's interrogating gaze on me. "How about you bring Jacob and I'll bring Skylar and we'll just make it a party!" I squeak, in an effort to ease my anxiety.
Nolan nods awkwardly and hauls Jacob away. Skylar is giving me a suspicious look when I turn back around, however I refuse to explain until we're out of the earshot of everybody in hibachi. She gives me the look all the way back home until we're inside and shoving our faces with hibachi food.
"So..." She says. "You're hanging out with Nolan Carpenter, huh?"
"Uh, no?" I say through a mouthful of rice. She stares me down and I know I have to fess up. "We've only hung out once."
"Well he is cute," she says, taking a bite of her food. "But are you actually thinking about dating him?"
"I don't know," I say, dropping my head into my hands. "I mean for me to even be seen in public with him would cause problems. Everyone in this town knows him as the star of the rival basketball team, and they know me as the ex-girlfriend of the star of our basketball team. And this town is crazy about this rivalry."
"Oh my gosh, Tyler would hate this. This is so great!" She squeals, blatantly showing her hatred for my ex-boyfriend.
"Sky, he would make my life hell, and I really don't want to deal with that," I explain to her.
"Wait, so you're not going to tell him? You have to tell him."
"We broke up a month ago. I don't have to tell him anything," I tell her.
"No, I know that," she says, shaking her head. "I just mean it would piss him off, you know? I mean, you dating the guy he hates the most from our rival school, he would be pissed. After what he did to you, he deserves that much," She finishes, shoving another bite of rice into her mouth.
I shrug. "Yeah, I guess so. I just don't want to say anything until it's a real thing."
She swallows her bite, giving me a smug look. "Oh, after what I saw today, it's definitely a thing."
