best friends [ m.e. ]

Prologue

"Maaattttyyyy, come cuddle." I whine, rolling around in my huge, comfortable bed.

"Jeeeesssssiiieeee, I can't right now, I have to finish this paper for school," He says.

Matt is currently sitting at my computer, typing his report for writing class, which we both attend.

"But Matt, it's Christmas Eve, you have the whole break to work on that. you came over to spend time with your best friend, remember?" I say

"Oh yes, have you by any chance seen her?" he smirks. He stands up from my computer chair and lies down, next to me, on my white duvet.

"You jerk!" I swat at his arm and he laughs.

"I got you something," He turns to face me, "But you cannot have it until tomorrow, when I come over with my family for Christmas dinner."

"What about my Christmas Eve gift," I pout

"Right here," he says.

"Where?" I ask looking around my room.

"Me, I came over to hang out with you. I guess you don't care, so I might as well leave." He over dramatically sighs.

He sits up and starts to move off of my bed. I grab his shirt and pull him back onto my bed. He lies back down next to me and pulls me close to his chest.

"You promise you'll always be my best friend?" I say.

"Forever," He replies.

I fall asleep in his arms and I wake up to my mom shaking me.

"Your friends are here," She says and leaves my room.

As she leaves Liliana and Bryn walk in. Matt left a little while ago, he left a note.

"Hey Jess," They say and sit on my bed next to me.

"How are you and Matt," Bryn asks.

"We're good, he came over earlier." I say

"Why don't you guys just go out already," Liliana says

"Because..." I say

"Because why?" Liliana says

"The worst thing you can do is fall in love with your best friend."

"How come?" Bryn asks

"Because nothing will be the same if they don't love you back." I say and I look at the ground.

"And that is exactly what I've done. I fell in love with my best friend." I say
