"Has my hall been set up ready for my speech?"
"Yes, Taiskei"
Taskei turned around and Sleven bumped into Key.
"I-I mean! Yes! Lord Taskei!"
Taskei turned back around and continued walking on. Sleven and Krey followed on behind him.
"To catch a half-Ghoul..." Taiskei smiled. One week after the date
Konnie was stood at the counter cleaning glasses. She was lost in deep thought. Oblivious to the world around her. Flashbacks ran through her mind of the night she became a ghoul. They were like reels of a broken movie running through her brain. And the low, vicious, hungry voice that rang in her ears...
Go on, eat him!
"Kon?"
Konnie jumped. Eiji was staring at her with wide eyes. He looked like a surprised and worried puppy.
"Eij! Sorry, I was just um-" She lost her balance and fell backwards dropping the glass. Eiji quickly caught her, but the glass smashed on the floor. It was loud and rang through the room. "Th-thanks, Eiji"
"Hey no problem" Eiji smiled and stood her back upright. Konnie looked down at the smashed glass.
"Shit..." Both her and Eiji leant down to pick up the scattered shards of glass.
"Hey don't worry about it. Let me take care of it. You sit down, okay?" He said beginning to pick up the glass.
"R-right." Konnie stuttered standing up and sat on one of the bar stools on the other side of the counter. She wiped her brow and put her face in her hands. Eiji finished picking up the last of the glass putting it in the bin and then went over and sat beside Konnie putting his hand on her back.
"Hey, don't worry about it okay? These things happen." He smiled. "I'm worried about you though Konnie. Are you okay?" He asked with concern in his voice.
Konnie looked up at him.
"What do you mean?" She said tilting her head.
"Well, lately you haven't been yourself. You keep having these random moments where you just space out, just like now." He said grabbing his chin. "And then you look like you're going to cry."
"Oh... I do?" Konnie said looking down. Eiji nodded.
"Do you need to talk Konnie?" Eiji asked worried. Konnie looked at him.
"I-I keep having flashbacks on the night I became a ghoul. And the night I ended up losing myself to hunger. There was a voice just shouting and screaming in my ears..." The voice began ringing in her ears again, just a faint memory of it. Go on, eat him! Konnie shook her head. "It just sounded so demonic." Eiji held her close to him.
"Hey it's okay. No matter what, it's just something that's in the past coming back to bite you. It's not a bite that hurts and stings for long. But, another thing could be the fact of your ghoul hunger..." Eiji looked down at her and Konnie looked up at him, they locked eyes.
"M-my ghoul hunger?" She asked with a little fear. Eiji nodded.
"Hunger for a ghoul can be absolute hell. If we don't eat, we'll be too weak to even survive let alone have the strength to even produce our kagune." He said calmly.
"Kagune?" Konnie tilted her head. "You mean, that tentacle sort of thing?"
"Something like that yeah. Many ghouls have different kagunes, but more about that later. Right now you need to worry about eating. I'm sorry Kon, as much as I hate to put you through it, you've got to eat at some point..." he said sighing.
"B-but I don't want to kill anyone!" She said to him afraid.
"Hey, I didn't say anything about having to kill." He smiled at her warmly. Whenever he did smile at her like that, her heart couldn't help but be laid to rest of any fear and anxiety.
"I don't have to kill?" She asked with hope in her voice. Eiji shook his head.
"Nope!" He said smiling.
"How?" Konnie asked eagerly.
"I think you should see Mr Sankizawa." He said hugging her. Konnie hugged him back and smiled.
"I love you, Eiji. Thank you" She said closing her eyes. Eiji smiled doing the same.Konnie walked down the corridor towards Mr Sankizawa's office. The corridor's floor was brown and wooden. As she trod on she could hear her own feet taps against the strong wood. Aligned on the wall was a sort of yellow looking pattern with photos of old fashioned shops, cars and streets. Konnie smiled to herself.
"Misses the old times huh." She chuckled and approached Mr Sankizawa's office. She knocked on the door 3 times.
"Enter."
Konnie walked on in closing the door behind her.
"Ah! Miss T'aishei! I've been wanting to speak to you! Please, please have a seat!" Torini beamed gesturing to a seat opposite him.
"Hello sir. Thank you heh." Konnie sat down resting her hands on her lap.
"Coffee, my dear?" Torini asked standing up.
"Yes please sir." Konnie smiled. "Sir?"
"Yes my dear?" Torini asked pouring hot water over coffee beans into a jug.
"I've been wanting to speak to you as well." Konnie said looking at him.
"Oh?" Torini looked at her finishing making the coffees. He sat down placing Konnie's cup on its platter in front of her, and then he sat opposite her holding his. "How can I help?" He asked taking a sip. Konnie done the same and placed the cup back down. She looked down at her hands with a little bit of a distant face. "Please, take your time." Torini said smiling. After a couple seconds or so Konnie looked back up at him.
"It's about the night I was attacked by a ghoul, and the night I nearly ended up killing and eating an innocent man." She said twiddling her thumbs. Torini looked at her an nodded.
"I see. Please, go on Miss T'aishei." He said inspecting her face. Konnie nodded.
"That night I was attacked, it still haunts me, well both nights to be precise. I remember I became really hungry and I picked up the scent of something I thought was delicious. I spotted an innocent man heading into an alleyway, In which I followed. That's when it happened, I started losing control." Flashbacks reeled through Konnie's mind. "I could feel my mouth watering, and my teeth clenching together with hunger. And there was this voice. It was screaming, and shouting inside my head, it was just so demonic. But, I couldn't help myself and I ended up going to lunge for the guy. I was so focused on tearing the man apart and eating him bit by bit. It was just so demonic..." Her eyes began watering. "It scares me to death that it might happen again, and I don't want it to!" Konnie looked at Torini with tears streaming down her cheeks. Torini nodded.
"I see. You're slowly becoming hungry again, and that's what you fear the most, am I correct?" Torini looked at Konnie with focused eyes, and Konnie nodded.
"I don't want to hurt anyone." She said with fear. And Torini nodded.
"I can help you control this hunger, and that means consuming flesh. Every ghoul must consume flesh to survive and keep living."
"Eiji told me that..."
"Right." Torini looked at her and then stood up. He walked over to a cupboard and pulled a parcel out. Konnie watched him. She looked at the parcel Torini was walking back over to her with and her gut already knew what was in it. "I presume you have already guessed what is in this?" He asked looking at her.
Konnie nodded. "Human flesh..."
"Indeed." He handed her the parcel and she took it in to her hand. "Consume this and this will help you control your hunger for a while." Konnie looked down at the parcel and then back at Torini. She stood up and nodded at him.
"Thank you sir." She smiled a little. Torini smiled back at her.
"My pleasure, Miss T'aishei."
Konnie walked over to the door and out her hand on the door handle, and then looked back at Torini.
"You said you wanted to speak to me about something, sir?" She asked. Torini shook his head.
"It can wait. Go home and rest for tonight okay? And make sure to eat." He smiled at her and turned around walking to his desk. Konnie smiled back and walked out of his office.
"Food, Huh..." she said to herself walking down the oak corridor.Sorry this took so long to come out. But, I hope you liked this chapter! I tried to make it longer then any of my others Eheh. Chapter 4 will be out soon!!
