Say something- Christina Aguilera (feat. A big big world)
I stumble through the ever growing dry grass. The once lush green color it possessed, drained until it became dry, yellow and rough. The soft crunch under my feet rings solely in the dead silence that surrounds me as I walk to my mothers grave. If you can even call it a grave.
It's nothing more than a mound of dirt with patches of grass dotting the top at random places. A large boulder rests atop the mini hill. Crudely written handwriting decorates it's gray face-

2001 -2041I come to a stop next to the base of the grave. I kneel down slowly and rest a small bouquet of wildflowers next to the headstone. The wind whispers quietly around me. This is where I'm most content, right next to my mom. I let my eyes flutter shut as I choose my choice of words.
"Hey mom, how's it going?"I let out a dry laugh.
I can almost imagine her smiling down on me and gesturing for me to go on.
"Tomorrow's my birthday, but it won't be the same without you."I mutter. It hasn't been for ten years.
"I wish you could be here, with me and dad, so we could be a family again. I'm so scared mom, what if I become a vampire tomorrow, a monster?"I confess.
"I know if you were here you would say just the right thing to comfort me. But your not... why did you have to leave mom? Why?"I cry.
By now tears are welling up in my eyes and I'm fighting the urge to just let them fall. But I can't, I can't cry anymore. I'm done with being weak and crying so easily. Instead I let out a shaky breath as I nervously run my fingers through my brown hair.
"I'll talk to you later mom, yeah?" I push myself up before slowly walking away back down the matted path to my house.
My feet pick along the path excruciatingly slow, not making an effort to get home faster.
My thoughts once again wonder back to tomorrow. What it will bring, what surprises it has in store. My heart beats rapidly in my chest as I begin to think of the worst. Will they torture me? Make me drink some dreadful potion? Will they bite me? My hand flies up to the side of my neck as I rub it slowly imagining what the experience to be bitten would feel like.
The wind suddenly picks up, carrying a mini tornado of leaves across the pathway. The leaves scatter and rustle as if running away from something. I then hear a twig snap behind me. I whip around scanning the colorful scene around me. Nothing. Just my imagination running wild again. My subconscious tells me. Waving it off I continue to walk among the trees back to my house, yet my pace seems to have picked up slightly due to my nerves. I jump as I hear another twig snap directly behind me. I whirl around only to be greeted by the trees and their leaves. Frowning in confusion, I turn back around and this time my pace picks up considerably till I'm fast walking at a brisk speed.
Then a whoosh of air swirls past me as quick as lightning. I spin looking around, completely baffled at what's following me. "Hello?" I call out. No response. My heart is thumping against my ribcage. I gasp suddenly as it appears in front of me. A white horse. Majestic and white with a sculptured face. Her nostrils flare as she stands proudly, her wispy mane and tail flowing in the wind like silk. Her crested ears twitch to and fro with each rustle of a leaf. I've never seen a wild horse this close before. It astounds me how it suddenly appeared our of thin air. As I reach my hand out to stroke her neck she instantly vanishes leaving my hand in mid air. Then it strikes me. A phantom horse, of course! They were always thought to be a myth, nothing but a story my dad used to tell me many moons ago. They are said to only show up and be seen when they wish. Being extremely rare and wild no one has ever been successful in capturing one. But why would a phantom horse randomly visit me? It causes a fresh wave of questions to roll through my mind once again.
