Carrie is awoken by the sun rising through her windows. She sighs and flips over, attempting to save the small bit of exhaustion she had left. She failed.

~

Marie stares at her ceiling for what feels like hours. She nods her head in tune with the music she was listening to. But she was lost in her own thoughts. After all if you don't speak you have a lot of room for your own voice.

~

Carrie yawns and shoved her legs over the bed. She stands up and walks to her closet, practically falling over with each step. She rummages around a bit in there before pulling out a pink shirt and blue overalls with sunflowers spread across them

"That's dumb. You'll look fat in that, wear like a hoodie or something."

Carrie spun around looking for the voices. There was no one. She turned back around worriedly and shoved her clothes back in, pulling out a black hoodie and jeans. Whoever that voice was, was right.

~

Marie sighed. She gently pulled off her covers and stepped out of bed, pulling the blankets back onto her bed and smoothing them out. She hated when things weren't right. Normal. Perfect.

She walked over to her white blinds and pulled them apart, blinking a couple times trying to adjust. Eventually she did and she turned back around, looking for clothes to wear. She ended up picking out basic leggings and a shirt.

Go unnoticed and no one will bother you.

That had become her motto at this point. She just went with whatever worked because she had stopped giving a shit about what other people thought. So she made whatever situation she was in work. More for her own sake then theirs.

~

Carrie put her head in her hands and sighed. She pushed her hair out of her face and walked downstairs, grabbing an apple from the counter and biting into it. She licked her lips and looked around the room. She had only lived here for a couple months and yet it was the worst couple months of her life.

-flashback (Carrie)-

Carrie screamed and dropped her backpack. Her mom, the only one that had been there for her all her life was lying on the ground unconscious. Tears stung Carries eyes making everything blur as she picked up her mom, grunting at the extra weight. She ran as fast as she could to the nearest hospital completely forgetting about the car in here driveway.

-about an hour later-

Carrie sat in the room. She waited. Carrie reaches out and grabbed her moms hand and squeezed it gently as tears streamed down her face, making her mascara run. "It'll be okay...everything's gounna be okay...you'll be okay..." she said. Although deep down she knew that she was saying that more for herself then her mom. She wasn't sure if it was gounna be okay. She wasn't sure if her mom would make it, she wasn't sure if-

Carries running thoughts were interrupted by a beep. Her head jolted up as she looked at her moms heart monitor. A flat line ran across the screen. That was the last thing she saw before her world turned black.

-end of flashback-

Carrie snapped her head up at a noise across the room "dude get off the shelf," she said to her cat, violet, across the room. She laughed to herself and then let her face rest into a sad smile.

~

Marie unlocked her door and stepped down the stairs as softly and quietly as she could, attempting to make as little noise as possible. She got to the bottom and saw her dad passed out on the couch, surrounded by beer bottles and cigars smoked to the core. She sighed and stepped over the bottles, walking down a hallway.

Marie walked past a picture and then stopped, walking backwards to see it again. She stared for a couple seconds before running her fingers down it lightly, dust clinging to them as they went. She took her thumb and ran over one of the faces. Her own.

-flashback (Marie)-

Marie's mother giggled as she was dipped down into a kiss by her father. Marie stuck her tongue out "eeeewwww" she said loudly, making both her mother and father laugh.

They were at a park by her house, sitting on a pickick blanket. Marie's mother smiles at her and shifts Marie's hair behind her ear gently, kissing her cheek "one day you'll find a man as amazing as your father, I promise babygirl." Her mother spoke gently

Marie nodded and smiles. She took a bite of her sandwich and giggled as crumbs fell off her face and into her lap. She stood up and shook them off as her father chuckled.

"I love you darling," her father said sincerely

That was the last time she ever heard those words.

-flashback ends-

Marie pulls her hand away and looks at the picture, shaking her head. Her mother had died the next day. Maries dad had sobbed for days. Marie went mute. They had a relationship of don't ask dont tell. Marie didn't ask about all the beer bottles and the achoholisum and her dad didn't tell. Her dad didn't ask about the countless boys and girls she had over and the times she wouldn't come home for weeks and Marie didn't tell.

She walked to the kitchen and looked around. The fridge was empty as usual. Marie sighed and shook her head, grabbing her backpack and gently stepping outside. Her phone buzzed. It was the girl from last night. Marie roller her eyes and put her phone in her pocket. She started walking to school, stepping on the sidewalk cracks. After all she didn't have a mom so who's back would it break.
