You patiently waited for Jon to call you as he said he would after the dentist appointment. As you sat on the couch in y'all's apartment the silence was interrupted by your phone ringing shrilly. You immediately grabbed it and answered seeing it was Jon. "Hello?" "Hey babe. I just got out I should be home in a few." "Okay, what took so long?",you asked him curiously. It had been about two hours since he had left for the appointment, and you had been starting to worry. "Um, I'd rather wait to show you. It's nothing bad, it's just....surprising.", he replied nervously.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you in a few then?"
"Yeah,bye Y/N."
"Bye." You frowned as you hung up. He had called you by your name, he never did that usually preferring to call you cute nicknames instead. You started tidying up the couch where you had been lounging getting lost in your thoughts about Jon's surprise. After a few minutes of just walking around the apartment aimlessly you heard the front door open and Jon call out to you. "Y/N?" You stepped out of the living room and came to stand in front of him. He set the car keys on the table by the door not meeting your gaze. You sighed knowing that whatever he was hiding he wasn't just going to tell you outright. He started walking to the couch and sat down waiting for you to sit as well. He waited a minute before sighing."I went to the dentist to get these.", he said pointing at his mouth that now had braces on the top and bottom. It all suddenly clicked. You and Jon had been best friends since high school, y'all practically knew everything about each other. Jon had always been insecure about a lot of things but his bite was one of the more serious ones.
You knew he wasn't nervous about having them again, but about how you would react to them. "I'm going to go get something I'll be right back. Don't move." He nodded slowly, unsure of what you were going to do. You got up and went to y'all's room and got a box from the closet. Carefully setting it down on the bed and sifting through to find what you needed. You found the photo-album and put the box back in the closet. Closing the bedroom door you went to the kitchen for an Advil, and a glass of water for Jon. You went back to the couch and gave him the glass and Advil. He gratefully took them and glanced at the photo-album as you sat down. "You know I had braces as a kid before I moved to Winfield." He nodded at you. "Well my bite was just as bad as yours and I had to have orthodontic headgear. Thankfully by the time sixth grade rolled around I had it off but I still had to wear normal braces until eighth grade. Then we moved and I got them off then met you." He smiled at you and leaned in for a kiss but stopped at the last second and grabbed the photo-album. You laughed and just watched him go through it silently."They told me I have to have jaw surgery before it gets worst. ", he said looking up at you. You scooted towards him and leaned on his shoulder."And I'll be here for you like I've always been. It's nothing to be ashamed of Jon. You're still you just with metal in your mouth. I think you're just as cute with them anyways." He grinned down at you and kissed you carefully."Thanks babe."
