"Mommy this place is nice oo." Chinelo said after Chad left.
"It's true. The rooms are so big and the parlor is nice." I pipped in.
"It is. Let's thank God for safe journey. Go and bath. Chad said he is coming over to show us around a bit." My mom said to us.
"Mommy, I'm hungry." Chinelo whined to my mom. I swear, Chinelo is 15 but she behaves like a ten year old sometimes.
"Take the bag that has Gala in it. When we go out for sightseeing then we will grab something to eat." My mom told her.
"Okay. Where is the bag?" Chinelo never looks for things. The bag was in the kitchen, duh! My mom looked at her from the corner of her eye.
Chai! Chinelo don die!
My mom then eyed her and said,
"The bag is in my mouth. If it's not in the kitchen then where will it be again?!" She yelled. Sarcastic remarks is something that is normal in an African home. It's actually funny when you aren't on the receiving end of the remark though.
Chinelo cringed at my mom's tone and hurried to the kitchen after my mom was done blasting her. You can't walk away from an elder when they are talking to you. If you do that, you will be slapped into tomorrow. Hehe.🧡💛🧡
"Mommy can we stop to eat now?" I asked my mom. I am so hungry. The plane food just tasted weird, and the Gala did not satisfy any part of my stomach. I can officially say that I am famished.
"Chad, is there a place we can stop to eat?" My mom inquired of Chad.
"Yes. There's a fast food place around the corner. Let's go."
The place Chad took us to is just like how we see it in the movies. Even though in Nigeria we have places like Mr. Biggs, Shoprite, or KFC; seeing the real deal seems better. We order a burger and Coke. The food was not filling though.
"Nawa oo! This food is not even trying to fill my tummy. I want to eat Eba." I said in Igbo, since I didn't want Chad to understand that I was bad-mouthing his country's food. My mom and Chinelo burst out laughing. Poor Chad just looked confused. I look over to him say,
"It's an inside joke. Don't mind us." He nodded in understanding and smiled us. Honestly eh, I have never left Africa before. I have been to Zambia and Kenya though.
After the sightseeing, Chad took us back home. Chinelo and I went upstairs to unpack in our stuff. I can't call Mandy yet because I need to change my phone number and some settings. I unpack my secret stash of Nutri-C. When I said I brought a stash I didn't mean five or ten. I meant 20-30 packs. Hey, don't judge me. I'm not sure if this strange place has my favourite thing ever. Sheesh!
Settling in a new place is hectic. The unpacking and replacing is too much. We have been unpacking all day, yet we still have boxes and boxes of things to place aside. Thank God this place already had furniture. During the unpacking, my mom told us,
"School has already started but since we just came you girls will start next week."
"School?" I asked.
"Hmmm."
"So will we be going to high school?" I asked.
"Yes. You will be attending a school that is ten minutes away from here. The company is offering me a car so I will be taking you in your first few days. After that, you guys will get a driver or take the bus. Now go and cook Indomie. There is no egg so manage. I will go grocery shopping tomorrow." My mom said after giving us the information about school.
We went to cook our Indomie. I cooked my own and Chinelo cooked hers. Why don't we cook it together you ask. Because Chinelo makes her Indomie soggy and soupy. I like mine the opposite of hers so we just cook ours differently.
"Mommy thank you Ma." We both said to our mom when we were done eating.
"O thank God." She replied. In my house, you must thank your parents(thank you Ma, thank you Sir) after eating, and they respond 'thank God'. Don't ask me why. I don't know either, but it shows respect.🧡💛🧡
"Today *yawn* has been a tiresome day." Chinelo said and yawned which made me yawn. It's not my fault, yawning is contagious.
"*yawns too* Even I am tired. Let's go and greet mommy good night." We knock on my mom's door and wait for a 'who is it? Coming in' before entering inside.
"Mommy we are going to sleep now. Good night." I said. Mom came over to us and gave us a kiss on our forehead.
"Good night. Pray before you sleep." She answered.
That night, sleep didn't come so easily to me. Sleeping away from home isn't easy. Not knowing what the next day holds for you and staying up to think about it is exhausting.
Let me see what this place has for me. Is it like how the movies make it or not. I had better sleep now. Mommy will wake us up to pray tomorrow.Hey hey hey😉 This chapter isn't really exciting. The excitement will begin when school starts. Some of the things in this chapter is how we do it in my house🤭 Keep Reading, Voting, Commenting, and Recommending. Love y'all❤️
