~Okay, so I hope I'm not rushing anything in the story. If I am, please let me know and I'll try to get better at it. Also I'll try making the chapters longer. Which I'm very sorry they're so short. So I guess: ON WITH THE STORY! :D
"N-no! Yuu, get upstairs now!"
"But sis!"
"Listen, whatever that thing is out there. It isn't mom!"
"..."
"GO!"
There were three moments of silence. Three moments that seemed to be frozen in time. Then the zombie lurched forward and Madison pushed the corpse off, shooting once more for good measure. I slid to my knees, trembling. I bet I looked like a mess. "Are you alright?" She asked, putting a hand on my shoulder. I nodded, absentmindedly clenching the cool, hard metal of the gun. "Ve should get back, grab some supplies and let's go."
I got to my feet and began stuffing some goods into a random bag. After a few minutes we left the store, dead bodies and all. The streets seemed more gloomy. The sky was more grey than blue and the blood and meat along the road didn't help the feeling of it. I kept glancing in all directions. I could see in the far distance dark shapes limping about. I knew they were looking for their next meal. All I could hope were that those beats would rot in Hell. Though I guess my wish was already reality. After all they were rotting corpses that once were human.
But now, all I saw were the demons that worked for the Devil himself. I sighed, my grip growing on the bag I had slung across my shoulder.
"Gruoogh..."
That was not a good sound. That was a very bad sound! I quickly turned around, Madison seemingly having the same thoughts I had. We went back-to-back, aiming at the zombies around us. I shut my eyes tight and shot at as many as I could.
1 Shot. I hear a body fall to the ground, an unpleasant thump echoing through the somewhat silent area.
2 Shots. I hear two more, I don't want to look. I already know what it'll look like. Corpses. All bleeding black blood.
3 Shots. The moans and groans around us stop as a few more fall dead. Though it didn't help our situation. The sound attracted more attention than it was worth.
I opened my eyes, and in my head a plan formed. If we made a run to the station, then surely we wouldn't make it. Most of them were in that direction, we'd just lose bullets and our lives. Staying in the convient store would be a horrible idea. After what happened with that thing, I don't even want to go near it. So our only option was a nearby house. If we ran straight there, it'd be suicide as well. We would need another route.
They were closing in fast. That's when it hit me. "Madison! Fire over at that trash can!."
"Vhat? Vhy!"
"It'll attract them towards it so we can make a run for that house! It's the closet shelter we have!"
She was hesitant at first but did so.
1 Shot. It caught they're attention.
2 Shots. One by one the zombies headed to it.
3 Shots. It was time to go.
"RUN FOR IT!"
"K-Kiyoshi! Where are we going?"
"We're going to find the police. If we don't then whatever killed mom, will get us too!"
"Okay..."
I pulled Yuu with me as we ran, the eight-year old barely keeping up. I stared at our destination. My focus completely on that, but it was a fault.
"SIS!" Yuu was jerked out of my grasp and I turned around, choking on my own scream of horror. Yuu was looking at me with paniced eyes as he was ripped apart by those things.
"YUU!" Tears streamed down my face as I watched them eat his flesh, as I watched them eat the only family I had left. Then...they came for me.
We reached the house and Madison kicked the door open, holding up her gun in case. I quickly went in after her, baracading the door with whatever I could find. After that I started exploring the house, my own weapon in hand. I went up the stairs, and opened a room. It was dark, an eerie silence taking over. I saw movement and my guard went up more, which is amazing since I was already on my best. My hand reeched for a light switch and I turned the darkness into a bright void of brightness. Quite surprised the electricity actually worked.
I didn't expect what I found. And I bet no one who was living in a world of death would too...
