Breath in. The smell of the salty ocean air fills my lungs. I open my eyes to see the waves crashing down, taking and leaving bits of sand each time. The leaves of the big oak, protecting me from the blazing afternoon sun, blows in the breeze. The ocean this afternoon soothes my whirling mind. Why he would come back after all this time, is beyond my understanding. Like I'm going to believe the "I just missed you" angle.
I can't even think. God! I can't believe that Gram just sold me out like that! But it's not like she knows the whole story. She couldn't understand. I sigh and stand up, walking until I reach the water. It welcomes me, water splashing around my feet and up my ankles, pulling me in.
As I stand there watching the water surround me, I try and empty my head focusing instead on the water around me. Suddenly I'm pulled out of my thoughts by a tap on the shoulder. I turn quickly, backing away from the touch knowing it's him. I put my hand up to stop him from coming closer.
"How'd you find me?" I ask, getting right to the point.
He reaches up to scratch his neck, looking sheepish. Ha! Like hell I'm going to buy this innocent act.
"Gram" he says finally.
I groan and rub my face, Gram is really not doing me any favors right now.
"Look," he says reaching for me, I back away from his touch almost falling into the water as I do. He puts his arm down and sighs,"I just - " I cut him off before he can finish, "I don't care! Whatever you're here for I don't - no, I won't have any part of it!"
I walk past him to the path home, my thoughts racking around my mind on where I'm going to hide from him next because he sure as hell is not going to leave me alone now that he's found me. He catches up to me half way to grams, and yanks my arm so I'm facing him. His grip gets tighter as I struggle to pull away, "Listen girl," he snarls," I'm tired of being nice - "
I snorted, "Nice? Really?"
"Yes, nice," he growled, "and if you don't - "
"Don't bother threatening me." I snap, trying to loosen his hold on my arm. At that he shoves me down hard on the rocky path. A sharp pain emanates from my forearm and the smell of blood fills my nose.
He stares down at me, a wicked smile on his face. "So," he drawls, "what do you say? Help me or..." he glances at my slick red arm, "not."
I look up at him, hate filling my eyes "Sure thing.....Daddy."
