Chapter 23

A few days later Lanie, Espo, Ryan, Tim, Martha and Alexis were supposed to come to surprise Kate and spend a day or two with them.
It was the morning and Kate was still sleeping. They were supposed to arrive in an hour so Rick decided to go wake up Kate with breakfast in bed.
He walked into the bedroom, put the breakfast on the little commode next to the bed and sat next to Kate.
- "Goodmorning sunshine." He said kissing her on her forehead
- "Hmm. What's that smell?" She said opening her eyes
- "I made you breakfast, smells good huh?"
- "Uh!" Was all she could say.
She ran to the bathroom, hands on her mouth and threw up.
- "What? What's going on with you?" He said sitting next to her and rubbing her back
- "I don't know Rick." She said leaning on him.
- "You're hot, you must have a fever. I'm gonna call the doctor." He said helping her to stand up.
- "No I'm fine don't worry. It's just the flu or something like that."
They walked back to the bedroom.
- "Just get some rest." He said helping her laying down and kissing her. "Get up whenever you want."
He was walking out of the bedroom when Kate called him.
- "Rick? Can you take that plate of breakfast please?"
- "Sure babe."
About an hour later Lanie, Espo and Ryan arrived.
- "Heyy" said Rick walking to them
- "Hey" they said.
They all hugged and came inside.
- "Where's the rest of the group?" Asked Espo
- "I had them on the phone they should arrive in less than an hour." Answered Rick
- "Where's Kate?" Asked Lanie
- "She's upstairs, getting some rest. You can go see her if you want." Said Rick
- "Oh no she needs to get some rest I'll go there later."
- "'kay. Let me show you your rooms." He said walking upstairs
Rick showed them the whole house and when they were done Martha, Alexis and Jim arrived.
- "Hello darling." Said Martha hugging her son
- "Hello mother. Daughter, Jim. How was the road?"
- "Great." Said Jim
They all walked to the house. At that time it was almost time for lunch.
- "I'm gonna cook lunch, do you want something to drink? I have a lot of things, let me show you." Said Rick opening the fridge
While they were all chosing something to drink, Lanie came upstairs to see Kate.
She walked to the bedroom and sat next to Kate, caressing her cheek.
- "Hey." She said when Kate opened her eyes
- "What. What are you doing here?"
- "I'm happy to see you too" Lanie said smiling
- "Uh sorry." Kate said hugging her bestfriend
- "We came to surprise you."
- "We?" Asked Kate
- "Yeah. Come with me."
They walked downstairs to the living room.
- "Hey" they all said when Kate came in.
- "OMG guys! Why are you all here?" Said Kate with a big smile
- "We came here to surprise you darling!" Said Martha hugging her
- "I'm so happy to see you all! Thank you." She said hugging everybody. "You knew about this huh?" She asked turning to face Rick
He only nodded, took her in his arms and kissed her.
- "Do you feel better?" He asked
- "Yes. Thank you for that! I love you."
- "I love you too."
- "Okay kiddos we can see you!" Said Martha and everyone laughed.
- "Lunch's almost ready, you can go sit at the table we'll be right back." Said Rick going back to kitchen with Kate. "Are you sure you don't want to call the doctor?" He asked once in the kitchen
- "Yes babe I'm fine. I'm feeling a lot better."
- "Fine but if you're still sick next week I will call him."
- "Fine."
A few minutes later they walked back to the living room with the food. They all eat and talk about everything and nothing.
