Hello everyone. I'm here with a request from @Treetri001. I hope you like it. This is supposed to be an angst oneshot so I hope I executed it well :)
"Oi give me back my sausages!"
"Your what?"
"MY SAUSAGES!" Your best friend giggled with you, slapping your hand away while pulling her homemade bento box closer towards her. She guarded it while her hands acted as bulletproof interchangeable shields. Using her chopsticks, she picked up one of the sausages to present them with a big proud grin. "I worked hard on those. Look! They are little octopuses. Either way, don't they look so cute."
"Yeah. Very. Your food is always so exquisite in the looks and taste department. I'm confused as to why you haven't been on a cooking show yet and written a 5-star book. I feel like the world is missing out on your effortless talent."
She rolled her eyes. "Alright, Alright Kiss-ass. Flattery might hypnotize the boys but I've been with you for more than a lifetime it feels so your witchery won't work on me."
Pouting at her, stressing the sides of your lips, you plumped back down on the chair and dug your head in your hands. "How about just one? I'm practically starving here."
"If you're so hungry, then maybe consider the plate full of food right in front of you before pining over someone else's lunch."
"..." If you were asked to describe the cafeteria and its food with the months, you would claim it to be harder than deciphering black-inked pens from each other. It wasn't that you didn't enjoy the food the school provided but after weeks of the same delis and parfaits, it was becoming bland and hard to digest. It was as if all tincture of color that once adorned it seeped out and was replaced with dreary hues of greys instead.
Noticing how quiet you were, your best friend huffed, shaking her head. " Fine. Here you can have one. God, it feels like I'm your mother rather than your friend sometimes... or maybe you're more like my pet."
'OI!" You gasped but you were distracted when she placed a sausage on the rim of the plate, away from the buttered bread that was soaking in the curry rice. Fitting the sausage into your mouth with one bite, you melting in your chair, kneels up. Your whole body collapsed in on itself, savoring every new taste your mouth discovered like an unlocked power-up in a platforming game.
The cafeteria was getting busy now and that meant the volume in the room was tumultuous as more students filed in, torpid and starving since even though the food might not be gourmet, it was made up by its ambiance. They filled up the empty chairs like a swarm, placing their bags to act as a reserve before ambling towards the buffet tables.
You could sense that your friend was trying to converse with you, judging by her use of amplified hand gestures and facial movement, due to the difficulty of speaking over the mindless chatter.
Despite her attempts, your head was cluttered with other miscellaneous thoughts and troubles that have built up over month's preparation. They all seemed to orbit around the same person you couldn't afford to stop caring about even if he never flashed a thought for you lately.
"So we got some VIP tickets since my cousin works at the stadium. I got to meet the band afterward and-" She stopped mid-sentence, realizing she lost your attention altogether. She slammed her chopsticks down and grimaced." ... What's up with you lately?"
"Hmm?" You jetted up, seeing your best friend in a very irritated state, judging by how her eyebrows were knitted together like a winter's jumper, fuzzy and attached.
"I've been trying to talk to you all week but in the one time, we see each other, you turn away with eyes filled with boredom. Is this beneath you now? What's with the attitude?"
