you awoke on your bed as if you fell from the ninth floor. a couple of inherent groans later, you're sitting up and checking the time.
...when does school start again?
you were so drowsy that you barely remembered to wipe the sleep from your eyes. then it hit you.
"shit? SHIT!"
you fumbled through your bag and brought out a brush. sprinting to your bathroom to get ready, you check for your phone. it was nowhere to be felt.
"that's just great." you comb your hair and brush your teeth, and finish by washing your face. you looked so tired it seemed like you only had a couple dabs of eyelash glue holding your eyelids up. rushing downstairs, your mom greets you with a confused face. she was washing veggies in the kitchen and dropped a cucumber in the sink when she saw how tired you looked. you gave her a sheepish smile, gesturing for her to give you a piece of bread for the road.
"it's 7:30, honey. school starts at eight today. did you forget that it only takes you 10 minutes to get to school?"
you both heard footsteps above you, but your dad wouldn't be home until tomorrow night.
you feel your skin crawl. who could it be so early? you signal to your mom that you're going to go check it out.
the staircase feels denser under your feet. the footsteps continue to get louder and louder as you ascend, but suddenly get super quiet, and finally stop. you furrow your brows together and run to your room and open the door. nothings changed.
but on your f/c desk sat your phone, face-up, showing the time. the window was open by a crack, letting the soft morning breeze hit your curtains.
"ah."
saiki really was scary.
"y/n? what happened?" your mom comes running up to you.
"nothing. i think that person's gone." your mom breathed a sigh of relief and just hopped down the stairs again.
even though the situation was weirder than a goose playing the tuba you cracked a little smile.
"maybe today won't be so bad."
