Paula woke up suddenly because her injured leg hurt a lot. She moved on the bed and removed the sheet. Then when she saw the improvised bandage, she remembered what happened last night. Paula was worried, so she removed the bandage and then observed the wound: the cut was not too deep and was not bleeding anymore, but her leg was swollen and her skin was blotchy. She placed her hand on the wound, but removes it right away because it hurt so much. What should she do now? She couldn't hide it from her aunt and uncle, they would notice. What would she say to them then?
Paula sat on the bed and then heard a discussion coming from the garden. Parker's voices entered dimmed through the half open window. It was very early yet; it had dawned very recently, for that reason Paula was surprised that they were awake. She approached the window, limping a little, and then looked at the garden, but saw nothing. Paula was confused and was about to return to bed when she noticed the tip of her aunt's pink dress. She was standing just under the wooden roof just like her husband, so Paula had not seen them. What was happening? —the woman wondered. Then she opened the window a little more to listen better to the conversation.
"It was her, I'm sure," the man said. "Last night she was wandering around the house again."
"It can't be possible, honey, last night I gave her tea, as I always do. It is impossible that she got out of bed last night."
"Look at the mess here! Pieces of wood and crap scattered everywhere," Mr. Parker was very angry. "There's a hole in the damn roof! How will I fix it?"
"Maybe an animal did it!"
"I don't think so, Laura. I'm surely she went out through her window! I'm sure that last night I heard noises," he said furiously
When Paula heard it, she felt chills and her heart beat faster. She was dead, when Mr. and Mrs. Parker saw her injured leg, they would discover everything.
"It's not possible. Maybe it was a cat or something else..."
"What are you talking about? There was no wind, everything was calm."
"Maybe a branch...," Mrs. Park hesitated.
"I'm sure that the girl came out through her window," he said, but his wife interrupted him.
"Why would she want to escape in the early morning? I just went to see her and she is sound asleep."
"Maybe she escaped with a man," Mr. Parker said wickedly. His wife got angry.
Paula listened to him and also got angry. Who the hell did he think she was?
"She can barely stand up during the day, so it cannot be possible," the woman said with a lot of authority.
Paula was surprised.
"Of course it is possible!" shouted the man loudest yet, then he added in a dangerous way: "Don't talk to me that way!"
That phrase put Paula on alert, she didn't like Mr. Parker's voice. Mrs. Parker did not answer her husband. Paula then heard a blow and a door opening. Mr. Parker entered the house, kicking the door that led to the garden. A few seconds later, Paula heard footsteps going up the stairs, approaching. Then she got scared and returned to bed. She covered herself with a blanket and closed her eyes in case the man entered the room. It was a good idea because in fact he opened the door and looked at her from the doorway. She tries to stay still.
A short time later, Paula began to think about what to do, so they wouldn't discover her wound. She had to disinfect the wound and bandage it correctly, but the medicine cabinet was in the kitchen do if she took it, then they would discover her. Then she decided to go to Daiana's house to ask for help and tell her friend everything that happened, but she had a doubt. Could she really do it? And Paula was not referring to her injured leg, she doubted if her aunt and uncle would allow her to visit her friend, but she couldn't think of another solution.
