Laying next to Luke was different and a first in Calum's life. He only shared a bed with two men in his life, Ashton and Michael. With Michael it was innocent, back when they were children and everything wasn't as complicated as it was now. They'd hid under covers and whispered to each other for hours, it was the times when Calum would make awkwardly put braids inside of Michael's hair, when he didn't have to worry about anything but feeding his fish so it didn't die like the last one.

They shared innocent kisses that had gone overlooked by their parents because it was the two of them and nothing more would come to pass. Back then Calum didn't have to worry about someone seeing something on his body that needed to be covered, when he could watch a makeup tutorial and be amazed instead of depressed about how he had to use makeup to hide his ghastly imperfection. He wasn't sure if he'd ever be able to lie in the same bed with Michael and trust him enough to sleep the night in vulnerability.

With Ashton it was ravenous, Calum always felt unsafe beside his boyfriend, ex boyfriend. He never slept properly, always lightly just in case Ashton woke up before he did and was deep in his mood. Those times were built of fear, Calum had grown scared of his own bed their first nights together. The bed was defiled for weeks, just as Calum's skin because his flesh carried the burden on his shoulders and the marks across his body.

Nightmares plagued him day after day, every time he closed his eyes fears would over take him and every time he laid in the covers, he felt closed in and restricted out of his own comfort. He slept on the couch for months after, only ever returning to the bed when he head no other choice in the matter. He couldn't sleep for months, always fearful of loosing to himself, always feeling as if something or someone was creeping on him and waiting for him even dare to be vulnerable.

He wasn't sure how he felt with Luke, playing with the edges of his plain cover and stared ahead of himself. He was tired, eyes droopy and the feeling was only worsening with every second he sat on the bed and could feel the slow pull of sleep trying to bring him down. He wanted to sleep but his want of not being in such pregnable state in front of the blond was winning him over.

Sleep wasn't an option and neither was having Luke leave because the blond was sitting beside him, not exactly on the bed but sitting with his legs hanging off the side and his hands playing with his ring. Luke glanced at the brunet as he nodded off a bit before catching himself, eyes shooting open in alarm of his own sleeping state coming after him.

"Calum, it's been an hour and forty two minutes since we've come up here. Go to sleep." Calum shook his head as he dismissively waved Luke off, the curly blond catching his wrist, "You need to sleep."

"I'm not tired." He lied weakly, a yawn that he tried fighting at only making his argument weaker as Luke deadpanned at him, most obviously unconvinced by his lie.

"If you want me to leave for you to sleep, I will-"

Luke was making the move to leave, pushing up from his spot as he let go of Calum's wrist. The brunet panicked at the thought of being alone, instinctively reaching out to grab Luke by his hand as he leaned forward, eyes widening into dark brown saucers of fear of being abandoned at the moment when he felt so at risk of his own mind, though a small part of his mind was telling him to just let Luke leave so he could be alone.
