*Joe's POV*
"Are you okay?" a beautiful young woman was hovering above me, repeating her question, "Are you able to talk? Move?"
It took me a second to make sense of everything, "Yeah, sorry. I think I'm okay."
I went to use my arms to pull myself back up before realizing she had already put her hands on my bicep to help give me a boost, "Take it slow."
"Thank you," I was able to get back on my feet, honing in on my body to check to make sure nothing felt bad enough to go to the ER for, while she picked the bike up in a standing position.
Fortunately, the bike was also pretty much unscathed. There were only a few scratches on the frame. As for myself, I'm sure my fresh post-crying face looked worse than any injuries I received.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked for a third time.
"I can take a few small cuts and bruises," I brushed my pants off with a façade of a smile.
"I'm not talking about the fall."
Shit. So it was obvious.
"Um, it just hasn't been the best day...or week... or month...or year..." my sentence prolonged as my eyebrows furrowed.
She wiped my cheek with her thumb and lightheartedly joked, "If there's any consolation, your tears are helping getting the dirt off your face."
I chuckled, "These are all the tears you're gonna get, so hopefully it's enough."
"Well, hey," she gave me a charming smile, "there's a park at the end of the trail. I was heading there anyways, but I'd really like your company, if you're up for it I mean. Please don't feel obliged."
"I—" I paused before looking back at her, "Yeah. I'd like that."
Nick would've been proud to see I took his advice, even if it wasn't exactly how either one of us pictured it. Not only would I be around other people that didn't include an errand, but I made spontaneous plans with a gorgeous woman that basically saved my life. Okay, maybe that was overly dramatic, but c'mon. I probably would've still been lying on the floor if it weren't for her.
"I'm so sorry," I turned to her as we walked beside one another, my hands on the handles to steer the bike at my outer side, "I never asked your name."
"We'll just excuse it by saying you hit your head," she winked, "Taylor."
"Taylor," I smiled, "Well, if there was anyone I would've wanted to meet in these awkward circumstances, I'm glad it was you. Joe, by the way."
"Joe...Jonas?" she raised her eyebrow while pointing a finger at me.
I nodded, not knowing if I should've felt disappointed or unbothered, "So you do know who I am."
"I thought you looked familiar, but I wasn't completely sure," she explained further, "My sister used to be a big fan of you and your brothers, but that was during your Camp Rock days."
"Ouch, used to be?" I sarcastically bantered, "I think I'm more embarrassed on that phase being how you see me in comparison to the complete mess I am right now, which, by the way, usually isn't what I look like."
"So you're telling me you don't always have dirt and tears smeared all over your face and clothes?" she continued with our banter.
"Only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays."
"But today's a Thursday."
"I guess that's because I wanted to impress you," I smirked, causing her to bashfully smile.
